I am a member of LLL of St. Petersburg, my good friend is my leader. She has

given me tons of info, so I am totally armed four Lily's 2 year visit.

It just burns me up, as this is our second ped. The first one, his nurse told me

at 1 year to start her with whole cows milk and begin weaning! I had no

inclination to follow those directions. She had made note that I was going to

follow her directions, and when the dr. came in he asked why I was going to

wean. I told him I wasn't and that his nurse told me I should. He told me that

if I continued, it was obviously best, and she would not need whole cow milk.

My husband grew up on milk, but I was allergic when younger, and never really

drank it (only in my cereal and baked goods). There was no way I was giving it

to Lily. And now that I am trying to go vegan, I do not keep it in my home.

I was feeling very compromised at the time I was challenged, as Lily was going

through some health issues and was placed on a clear liquid diet. I was told I

could nurse through it, but there was no follow up or end date suggested. I

read that it should continue for only 48 hours, and at the 50 hour mark, I had

taken about all I could. She was nursing round the clock, as she was very

hungry, lost almost 1/4 of her total weight!

She is back to fine now, and gained everything back, thank goodness. But, as I

was trying to get to the bottom of everything, he was grilling me on our nursing

habits. I thought " not the time, buddy! " But, I listened to what he had to

say, and I agreed, to some point, w/o wanting to.

Thanks very much, for listening :)

cassie, you should let your doctor know that the major health organizations

of the world recommend nursing for at least two years, if not longer.
