Guest guest
Have you tried dietary changes? I forget the details, but I remember diet can help/hurt eczema. What about using coconut oil? It's not liquid at room temp, but melts when it hits body temp. Apricot kernel oil is another favorite of a friend of mine. You can add a drop or two of essential oil into the bottle if you don't like the smell. Or, one of the shea/coconut/aloe combos from the various " healthy " companies like Burt's Bees? Guest guest
Have you tried calamine lotion? It helps with itchy skin and worked for my skin problems. For example, there is a lotion called caladryl which can help. formy4ms <formy4ms wrote: hi all, i am hoping that someone has some advice. i have had eczema for years and i have tried EVERYTHING i could find. only one thing has worked. i have even had stuff from the dermatologist that broke me out in hives right away. anyway, the one thing that works is eucerin creme and i don't think it is vegan and i am pretty certain they do animal testing. i would love to have something else to use but if you don't have eczema, you might not understand------the itching is enough to make the most sane person COMPLETELY insane and scratch until you bleed. now that it is pretty under control because of the eucerin i am feeling a little braver to find an alternative. i have very sensitive skin and even stuff that says it is fragrance free really is not if you are sensitive enough!!! hope someone can help - thanks in advance! heather Never miss a thing. Guest guest
I use a homeopathic called Florasone Cream. It works for me. I don't know if it's vegan. I get it at the HFS. I know what you mean, I wish I could make eczema just go away (thru diet?). I haven't had success doing that! I get plenty of omega 3s, green foods, raw foods, natural foods... Anybody? Guest guest
Hi Heather, I know exactly how you feel. There is no discomfort like the itch of an eczema outbreak! Ugh!!!! I first was diagnosed when our son was about 2 months old – when he also had his first outbreak. I’ve had luck with only two things – Burt’s Bees Res-Q Ointment and Burt’s Bees baby crème .. . . unfortunately, now that they’ve been bought by Clorox, which tests on animals, I’m on a quest to find something new before the next full-blown outbreak. I seem to think Eucerin tests, too, but can’t remember – but I do remember having an issue with an animal ingredient in one of their creams, but maybe not all of them. My partner just got a new homeopathic cream called Eczederm Rescue, which we used on our son’s most recent eczema, and whereas it didn’t seem to shorten the outbreak in duration/time, it did stop the itching. We’ve also started taking homeopathic Sulfur tablets for the itching, and that seems to help a bit. But I sure look forward to anything you hear about as far as creams/lotions! And I know what you’re talking about with sensitive skin, too – I usually just use baby products since they don’t usually irritate my skin, but have been trying new non-baby lotions to try to replace the Burt’s Bees baby lotion we’ve been using daily. Well, one is so greasy and stinky I can’t stand it; one is so thin I have to put it on 3 times to make my skin not feel dry and tight; and the third one made my face sting and made my son’s face turn red. I’m getting ready to just start using pure coconut oil or something, out of the bottle. :-) I’ll let you know if I find anything that works for eczema or sensitive skin! Best of luck! Guest guest
My daughter and I both have periodic outbreaks of eczema, and eucerin definitely works. Check the list archives; there have been a couple of eczema threads over the last couple of years and I am sure that you will find some great tips. Most important is to stay very hydrated and keep the eczema from drying out (I've used olive oil in i pinch). formy4ms <formy4ms wrote: hi all, i am hoping that someone has some advice. i have had eczema for years and i have tried EVERYTHING i could find. only one thing has worked. i have even had stuff from the dermatologist that broke me out in hives right away. anyway, the one thing that works is eucerin creme and i don't think it is vegan and i am pretty certain they do animal testing. i would love to have something else to use but if you don't have eczema, you might not understand------the itching is enough to make the most sane person COMPLETELY insane and scratch until you bleed. now that it is pretty under control because of the eucerin i am feeling a little braver to find an alternative. i have very sensitive skin and even stuff that says it is fragrance free really is not if you are sensitive enough!!! hope someone can help - thanks in advance! heather Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Heather, Eczema has to do with the liver and spleen. Acupuncture is a great way to get to the root of the issue. Also diet is extremely important. Healing from the inside out. The quality of water that you drink is extremely helpful. I have found with clients that drink quality filtered water, the eczema improves. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Laura **************It's Tax Time! Guest guest
My son had eczema when he was 3.5 mos old. I couldn't use any over the counter products because most of them have some form of steroid which actually thins the skin and makes it even easier to break the surface of the skin whenever you itch. The only thing we ever found that would help was straight vitamin E oil. I would apply that every night and twice daily. I also tried putting a little tea trea oil whenever there was any break in the skin, then the next application would have a little lavender oil. Both helped when there was a breakout. We were going to try homeopathic remedies - Rhus toxicodendron specifically, it is made from poison ivy and is not vegan because of the lactose - but we ended up finding out the cause of the eczema for my son was actually due to the harsh chemicals he was being exposed to at his daycare. Once we switched schools, no more eczema. The Vit E, TTO and Lavender though were life savers while we were trying to figure that out. Guest guest
I don't know if this might help, but I recently made my own lotion - my son has sensitive skin and with this winter not seeming to go away anytime soon, I needed something for him - in a pinch. My son was super itchy, and after I made this 'lotion' he called it my magic lotion because it worked fast, and he wasn't itchy anymore. I mixed this all only to get the consistency I wanted/associated with lotions. All measurements are approximate, since I no longer recall exactly how much I used. 3Tbs all vegetable shortening 3Tbs aloe vera gel 2Tbs or less Olive oil - for thinning out the mix about 1tsp or 1.5 tsp Vitamin E several drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil and Lavendar Essential Oil This was sort of loosely based on some home made lotion recipes I found online (but were not vegan as they used icky things). I checked out a book about a year ago from the library about making home made lotions and bath products (salts, hair gels and lotions and so on). I forget the name but it was something like 'natural beauty' or something. There were actually 2 of them - full of recipes and many of them seemed to be quite veganizable, or were already. I was just thinking about picking it up again, as it was really fun, and I was toying with the idea of selling them. Guest guest
A lot of times eczema gets worse because of stress (mine does). Try some stress releivers like yoga, exercise, flower essences, etc. I also use Bach Rescue Cream on the bad spots to help the itching. A bath in essential oils or sea salt helps as well. But, I have to say, the products are all nice and smell so sweet! We haven’t used California Baby, and I don’t know why – maybe it’s one that I don’t like the smell of in the store? Guest guest
Sorry I haven't replied sooner. My company, Jewels of the Earth Herbal Creations, has a cream that is used specifically for eczema. My partner has had eczema almost her whole life. We came up with this cream for her. She has been using it for a couple of months and the eczema is all but gone. She has it on her hands and they are now clear, not painful and not itchy. We are a vegan company. The cream is made from chickweed, cottonwood, burdock, calendula, distilled water, olive oil and candelilla wax. We also carry lip balm, room spray, herbal teas and vegan baked goods. Very soon we will be adding shampoos and conditioners. If you are interested, please e-mail me off list and I'll give you all the particulars. Guest guest
Hi Heather, My daughter and I have both suffered with eczema so I know how you feel! When Lily was a baby I used wheat germ oil (the good stuff from the health food shop) and I was sceptical but it worked brilliantly! I don't know how it would go on broken skin but it's fairly cheap and worth a go. I used it 3 times a day to begin with, then twice and then only after her bath time. I just applied it direct to her skin (and she scored a free massage!) even in the areas where no eczema was showing. Good luck Heather, Bec > >hi all, > >i am hoping that someone has some advice. i have had eczema for years >and i have tried EVERYTHING i could find. only one thing has worked. >i have even had stuff from the dermatologist that broke me out in >hives right away. > >anyway, the one thing that works is eucerin creme and i don't think >it is vegan and i am pretty certain they do animal testing. i would >love to have something else to use but if you don't have eczema, you >might not understand------the itching is enough to make the most sane >person COMPLETELY insane and scratch until you bleed. > >now that it is pretty under control because of the eucerin i am >feeling a little braver to find an alternative. i have very sensitive >skin and even stuff that says it is fragrance free really is not if >you are sensitive enough!!! > >hope someone can help - thanks in advance! > >heather
