Guest guest
I have found those " parenting " type magazines to be completely useless, at BEST--for nutritional information, child care info, " what baby needs " type articles, discipline, health--in other words, across the board ridiculous. I'm not at all surprised at the inaccurate and dangerous information in that article mentioned. Most of the readers of these types of magazines are vulnerable first time parents who were not raised around babies, and who have absolutely NO idea what to do, or who to turn to for advice. Forgive me if I'm offending someone here who reads and enjoys these types of publications. I'm a very jaded, very experienced mom of nine kids, ages 18 months-30 years old, so I guess my perspective is way different than most of the parents who would read these magazines, for obvious reasons. Definitely write to the magazine and voice an opinion. I did this myself in the last year or so, when there was an article in one of these magazines that I strongly disagreed with. It was a very negative article about having a child when you were older and overweight--I was then a 48yo mom-to-be, enjoying a healthy sixth pregnancy despite my weight, and planning a homebirth. I had gotten the magazine for free from someone when I ordered a maternity item. I don't know if my letter ever appeared, because I never got another issue. I don't know if any of YOUR letters will appear. But it's better to write than to allow them to think what was written in that article was true, even if your letter is only seen by a very few people at the magazine itself. They might be more cautious in the future about the accuracy of the things they print, or they might be open to a rebuttal type article (anyone here want to send one in?). Meat for a very young baby.
