Guest guest
Hi All, My family and I are traveling soon, and I am trying to make sure that all of our stops are near a store like Whole Foods Market so that we can avoid eating out at restaurants as much as possible. We aren't going to have room to bring a cooler, so I'm using mapquest and business searches to map out good places to stop. Whole Foods Market is the only grocery chain that I know about that has great vegan selections. What are some of names of the other vegan-friendly grocery store chains or co-ops that I could use in my search? Many thanks! Maggie
Guest guest
Maggie, If you go to the vrg website, they have listings of hfs in many states. Wild Oats is still around in some areas, Trader Joe's, Also _www.happycow.net_ (http://www.happycow.net) will give you stores. Good luck with your search. Laura **************Need a new ride? Guest guest
Hi Maggie, Where will you be traveling? Nearly all stores have a website; you should be able to so a search like this: natural grocery store somecity somestate. Also, most cities are available under local; you should be able to find stores there. The " regular " grocery stores in my area, and in northern NJ where my spouse's family lives, have fairly large " natural food " sections. Of course, you have to beware of the world natural; uranium and ecoli are natural. Guest guest
The only other one I know of is Fresh Market, if it's still around. I know Publix and I think Hannaford have some stuff, but I've not been in them for at least 6 months, or more (mom and my MIL live near those - at opposite ends of the East coast- Florida and Maine LOL). I have seen more whole foods type sections in stores like Jewel-Osco, Dominicks and even the Ultra Foods near my house. Aldi has organic soymilk, and fresh fruits and veggies (they get deliveries I think 2x a week, they're cheaper and fresher than anywhere else I've gotten them other than the farmer's market!). I think Jewel had the better selection (at least the one we used to live near) as they had an entire aisle or 2 of cert. organic/vegan/healthy foods and other grocery type products. Guest guest
Thanks everyone! I ended up finding a route through KS, MO, TN, GA, and NC that will take us by a whole-foods dedicated type store at every stop we need to make, including the places in between. It also won't add much extra time to our trip (maybe 20 min). I was even able to secure a hotel within less than a mile of these stores as well. Now I just need to call and make sure these stores are still in operation or haven't moved! : ) Maggie
