I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find veg baby lotions,

washes, and shampoos, that might be available at local stores (Wal-

Mart, K-Mart, Target, etc). I live in a small community that doesn't

have alot of options.

hi cyndi,

the idea that you need lotions, washes and shampoos for babies is an

enormous misconceptions they simply are not necessary and the only reason

people think they need them is because of the massive industry that has

sprouted up around baby products. in fact, lotions, soaps and shampoos

generally do more harm than good on babies' delicate, perfect skin. best

moisturizer for babies who actually have a problem of dry skin (and they

almost never do unless they have eczema or some other skin disorder)? olive

or coconut oil. best soap and shampoo? simple castille soap with nothing

added, such as dr. bronner's baby mild soap. babies and children don't need

a product that is specifically designed to wash hair. the best thing to

keep babies clean and comfortable is good ol' water. our kids almost never

received soaps throughout the first year of life. now that my son is older,

and has long hair, i wash it once a week generally, sometimes twice in the

summer, with dr. bronner's. we also use bronner's as a hand soap and body

wash. they never need lotions. the skin of babies and children is perfect

just as it is. adding a bunch of products to it, " natural " or not,

vegetarian or not, is simply unnecessary.

Target carries California Baby, and also some Method baby products.

Not sure if the method ones are vegan or not, but we just saw them at

our Target this past weekend.

I know that Target carries California Baby products. You will probably find the

best prices online. Maybe mothernature.com or amazon.

I agree with this. My son (this was also true of me when I was a baby) would

break out terribly if we used any kind of 'baby' soap or shampoo. My mom

used to bathe me, and I carried on the tradition, with just water, and

sometimes she'd add baking soda to it.

We also didn't use baby laundry detergent, because it was not only

expensive, but the 'free and clear' type laundry detergents we used on our

stuff (I have issues with the scented kinds anyway) we used as well. If his

cloth diapers needed a little 'more' we used the oxy stuff (it breaks down

into pretty benign things - at least last I recall since we don't use it

now).

I also never bought baby food unless we were out later than we meant to be,

as we just made extra, and then blenderized it (and you can custom make

between textures as your child gets older and so on). You can also make your

own mixes that you won't find in stores, too. :)

I had some other stuff, but now I'm off to read stories to my son before

bedtime. :)
