Guest guest
Hi all! I don't know if this has been discussed before or not, but I am SOOOOOO confused about immunizations, vaccinations, etc. I have read the basis of both views (being immunized or not) and I still do not know what to believe. Can anyone give me some input on the subject? I spoke with my chiropractor about it and none of his kids are immunized. He was telling me about how they are bred and grown as well as some of the ingredients in them. I was disgusted! Then there are the views I have been reading from Babytalk, Parenting, Parents, and Wonder Time (I know, I should be subscribing to Mothering-Natural Family Living instead, which is on my list of thyings to do, lol) and they keep reassuring the reader that all this talk aagainst immunizations is bull. My son is 15 months old and has not been immunized yet due to the fact that obviously I was leaning more toward being against it. Am I making the right decision? What if their is an outbreak of measles or small pox or whatever else they got vaccinations for these days? I don't know what to think and it worries me. Thanks for your help! I've learned so much already from reading all your posts. I appreciate it! Jamie
Guest guest
HI, Jamie. My son is now 16 mos old (14 mo adjusted, as he was a preemie). My DH and I have been back and forth over this issue. Wedid start to vaccinate my son. The Pediatrician did not feel that his prematurity was an issue and we went ahead and allowed him to be vaccinated at 2 mo, which made him a gestational age of 38 weeks. He would not even be born yet! My son reacted to that first round of shots, but I was soo.. tired and ill that I did not realize it at first. He screamed for 3 days after the shots. We went ahead and gave him the 4 mo shots and he reacted again, but the duration of the screaming was 5 days or so. He would scream until he would be exhausted and sleep until the next round of screaming. He woke every hour to scream. it took lliterally months for him to get back to normal after the shots. His ped felt that 2 reactions was not enough not to vaccinate him! I chose not to get any more vaccines at that time. I changed peds thinking maybe that would help, but got static from the new ped as well. He talked me into vaccinating him again at 1 year and they gave him different shots, with the excepotion of one, which he reacted to yet again. His thigh swelled to twice the normal size! I am not talking about localized swelling where the area around the shot site swells either. His entire thigh swelled. Now, I have abandoned the idea of vaccinating him ever again!! It is a hard decision to make regarding vaccines. There is so much conflicting information out there. I went to the CDC site adn read what they said, also, I read teh ingredients list for each shot and also the manufacturers inserts that the doctor office won't dare give you a copy of! After reading their inserts, I am totally against giving them to my son again. Now, I have 2 older children, 17 and 12, that are both fully vaccinated and had no problems. I assumed the same would happen now, but I was wrong. I will never know if prematurity was a factor with his reactions, but I have chosen not to vaccinate again. Now, I am in the process of looking for a new ped who won't give me a fit for non-vaccination. It is not my place to tell anyone whether or not they should vaccinate their child. That is a decision that you must come to on your own. No one knows your child better than you do. However, if I knew in the beginning what I know now, he would never have been vaccinated. There is also an organization for reporting vaccine problems.. it is something like the Adverse Vaccine Reaction something or another. If you google adverse vaccine reaction it should come up for you, if interested. Unfortunately, unless there is a major problem.. seizure or death, the reaction go unreported. As in the case of my son, they did NOT report his reaction. My question is.. how many other adverse reactions, no matter how minor to some, have gone unreported? Not only that, tehre are warning signs, I personally believe, before the big reactions occur. I also belileve that if I were to continue to vaccinate my son, he will either be maimed or die from it. He has a proven track record of warning signs, as far as I am concerned. Hope that helps, Gina Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Hi Gina, Wow! I can't imagine what you went through! It broke my heart to read how your son reacted. I was reading the book " Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child " and there was a page in there on the controversy of immunizations, and one of the short term complications was screaming syndrome. That's probably what your son was suffering. That was the short term complication of the standard DPT. I figured I'd let you know about that little piece of info.
