I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone for their input. I HAVE STARTED TO

read the articles and links you guys put out. Please, if you have any more

info about a vegan toddler's diet, do not hesitate to let me know, I would

like to know as much as I can. Susan, just one concern: I would like to try

hemp milk, but before doing it I started a little research, getting information

about the positive side of it and the thousands of potential uses (I have to be

honest, I am not a botanist, I never heard about hemp or hemp milk before in my

life)but at the same time I found that its taxonomic classification: plant of

the family Cannabaceae and it belongs to the " hallucinogens " group. So Susan, I

would like to know the sources that you consulted to decide to use hemp milk for

your baby?. As I said I am not a botanist and I did a little research about

hemp, I would like to know more and consult trusted sources, so I do not get

lost....

Thanks Susan and all of you friends

Here is something from vrg about iron.

I can also attest to iron absorption - I used to be anemic until I became

veg*n. Even

through my vegan pregnancy, my iron tested very high - no one could believe I

was a

vegan because I guess most women on a SAD diet are anemic during pregnancy.

Check out:

w/report

While we don't drink Hemp milk my daughter does take a Hemp seed oil extract

as part of her treatment for ADHD. We drink Silk plus Omega 3s from Flax oil.

The Hemp milk is a little pricy at $5 a half gallon. The silk plus runs about

$3 - 3.50 a half gallon. I would definitely go with the hemp milk if I could

afford it.

Rebeca,

I have been including hemp in my diet for years so I forget how " weird " it is

and how

often it is confused with marijuana. I can understand your concern as you go

through

the research. So below is some info I have found and I'll include some links for

you as

well.

What do hemp and marijuana have in common?

* Hemp and marijuana are varieties of the Cannabis sativa plant.

* It is illegal to grow both hemp and marijuana in the United States (although

it is not

illegal to sell or purchase hemp products)

* The two plants have similar aromas when in bloom—however, only one produces an

intoxicating effect when smoked.

How are hemp and marijuana different?

* Smoking marijuana will make the user high, and smoking hemp will not.

* Hemp contains less than 1 percent of the active ingredient THC, the substance

that

gives pot smokers a high. Marijuana plants, on the other hand, contain 10 to 20

percent

THC. Hemp also contains a relatively high percentage of another cannabinoid,

CBD, that

actually blocks the marijuana high. Hemp is not only not marijuana; it could be

called

" antimarijuana. "

* Marijuana plants and hemp plants have different appearances and are harvested

differently.

* Marijuana plants tend to be short and bushy, while hemp plants can have stalks

that

are 25 feet high!

* Unlike marijuana, hemp has many uses. Over 25,000 products can be manufactured

from hemp, including hair conditioner, diapers, insulation, carpets, paper, food

products

and perfume.

Some links for you:

http://azhemp.org/Archive/Package/Legal/legal.html

http://www.ratical.org/renewables/hempseed1.html

http://www.hempfood.com/info/hemp-hearts.html

and if you google Hemp food benefits you will find thousands of other articles.

Hemp is

a wonderfully renewable/sustainable plant and it is unfortunate that it is

illegal to grow

in the US. Most of the hemp food products imported to the US are from Canada,

and I

have found most of the hemp clothing we buy is from Romania. BTW, hemp clothing

is

wonderful as well - very durable, breathable and has an natural SPF to the

fibers. We

even use hemp oil in our homemade lip balms.

As always, let me know if you have other questions :)

HTH,

Susan

hi rebeca,

no, your baby will not get high from hemp milk. :) hemp is related to the

marijuana plant; they are both in the cannabis family. but what makes

marijuana hallucinogenic, or able to get you " high " , is its THC content.

hemp contains little to no THC in comparison. if you smoke hemp, all it

will give you is a headache. hemp has been used for thousands of years as a

food, fiber and medicine. it has never been used as a recreational drug. it

is actually an extremely valuable plant whose production the US disallowed

because, first, it was maligned by the paper industry, and second, it was

swept up in " reefer madness " because, apparently, nobody on the supreme

court bothered to talk to a botanist.
