Guest guest
We are celebrating my daughter's 2nd birthday on June 1st at a local park. She and I are the only vegetarians, but I think that using substitutes would be a great way to introduce non-veggies to our lifestyle. My mom thinks I should make it easy on myself and just have pizza delivered, but I want to show off And, I have been known to always make things harder on myself. I plan on making the cupcakes, and was thinking about having sunbutter and jelly sandwiches. I could do franks-n-beans with veggie dogs and vegetarian beans. Kids like that stuff, right? Lily eats lots of hummus, avocado, and kidney beans. That plus blueberries and she could live for weeks Any things that you experienced parents have done that I am not thinking of? Thanks, Cassie Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.
Guest guest
Hi Cassie, Just thought I'd toss in my two cents. My daughter and I are vegetarians too (lacto-ovo-veg) She since in utero - now nearly 18, me since about 11 years old - now 49 years. Our experience has been that she and her friends would not touch anything that remotely looked or tasted like meat (ex. veg-hot dogs and beans). She loves smoothies, almost any pasta with marinara sauce, mediteranian tapis(sp?) type items. Veggies and dip? Fruit salad? If you want to grill, what about roasted corn, sweet potatoes, peppers, squash, baked potatoes, etc. My daughter also loves mac and cheese (not very exotic but simple, satisfying and most kids love it). If simplicity is what you end up opting for I'd agree with your mom and order the cheese pizzas and relax. What does your almost-two year old birthday girl like most? Her guests would most certainly accomodate wouldn't they, knowing your veg. chosen lifestyle? Good luck to you - Happy Birthday to your little one and may God bless you with lovely weather! Take care, Peace, Dawn Cassie Dixon <roxy87cabriolet wrote: We are celebrating my daughter's 2nd birthday on June 1st at a local park. Guest guest
Yes, I think that ease will win over. We love spinach dip and hummus and crackers. I was thinking baked beans...a bit messy though. Now, to decide on the theme of Ladybugs (her nickname is Lily-bug) or Dora (which she proclaims LOL) Cassie d kimberling <dancingdolphindk wrote: Hi Cassie, Just thought I'd toss in my two cents. Guest guest
We're vegan and we don't celebrate holidays with sweets. So if it were me I would have popcorn (no butter), and orange and apple slices for snacks, and then a vegan taco bar for the meal: shredded lettuce diced tomato " Play Food " Cream Tang (a vegan sour cream substitute made with cashews that is very very good) vegan/organic salsa vegan refried black beans instead of beef (these are very good, have a thick consistency and no fat) corn taco shells The kids would have a lot of fun making their own tacos! It's also a familiar meal for most kids too. Just be sure to let parents know that the Cream Tang is made with nuts. That's my 2c. Hope you find some good ideas! Guest guest
Hey, Miss Liz - Fran at Ethical Planet in Evanston carries Play Food products. I'm not sure if she carries the sour cream, but you can give her a call to check it out: www.ethicalplanet.com. Guest guest
Marla, Thanks for the tip! We live fairly close and will be there weekly when the farmers' market starts again the 17th. Do you know if Play Food makes Hip Whip? Whole Foods used to carry it; a faux whipped cream made from cashews. Guest guest
Play Food is based in MO according to the package. I live in Kansas which is pretty near by. Our Whole Foods Market carries the nacho, cheddar, sour and cream cheese versions. I like all of them a lot! Maggie
Guest guest
I meant... I live in the part of Kansas that is close to the MO border. Not important but the homeschooler in me couldn't let it slide. haha On Mon, May 5, 2008 at 10:46 PM, Maggie Vining <maggie.vining wrote: > Play Food is based in MO according to the package. Guest guest
You're welcome, Robin! Definitely support Fran at Ethical Planet as much as you can. I wish I lived closer. I don't think that Play Food makes Hip Whip, but I do think that Fran may carry it. Marla > Marla, > > Thanks for the tip! Guest guest
Hip Whip was made by a company called Now and Zen. They also made the Unturkey. They went out of business. There's a vegan whipped cream in a can made by Soyatoo. It's very good and fun to spray in your mouth! , Marla Rose <marla wrote: > > You're welcome, Robin!
