Hi Tanya,

There's some good charts in the book, " New Vegetarian Baby " by Sharon

Yntema and Christine Beard - pages 208-9, that describe what a serving

size is for 12-24 month-old kids and how many of each food group they

need, plus supplements. Once we learned those, we just started with the

recommendation of the book that kids that age usually eat about 1/4 to

1/2 what adults eat - and offer all kinds of foods, knowing they'll be

picky sometimes. This info may be online now, but this is what we put

on our fridge back then. :-)

Good luck!

Daily Requirements for a 2 Year Old

Does anyone know of a reputable link I could go to which would have an

outline of how many servings of each type of food to give a vegan 2

year old each day? I see a lot of vague outlines and suggestions of

meals and what vitamins to include but not anything very definitive or

inteligible about actual amounts on any of the gov't websites...

Thanks!

Maybe I'm missing something vital, but I managed to raise nine healthy

kids without graphs and charts. LOOK AT YOUR CHILD. Is your child

healthy? Happy? Growing? Bingo!

I am not criticizing ANYONE for asking about this, BTW, because we all

feel a little insecure in our parenting at times, or want to do the

absolute best we can, so we like to SEE those graphs and charts to

reassure ourselves. I think everyone does that. I just don't feel we

need to read those graphs, charts, books, or web pages like they were

written on stone tablets, and I think some parents do just that, which

is probably not a great idea. We are ALL experts in our own children.

ALL of us. I like to remind myself of that from time to time. :)

I do have to say that at times, I need to be reminded about portion

size for the various age kids. I tend to want to load the plates up too

much. Marilyn

When my kids were little I loved Michael Klappers book about vegan

nutrition for children and preganancy. It was very clear and easy to

read. It had the daily requirements for children clearly spelled out.

And it even had some great recipes at the end.

PCRM has some good information on their site:

http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/veg_diets_for_children.html

It gives suggested number of servings (with serving sizes), as well as

sample menus, for different age groups.
