Guest guest
Hello, I'm looking for a single sheet with nutrition information for fruits and vegetables to post on my refrigerator to be sure that my 15 month old daughter (who is also very finicky and a vegan) is getting everything she needs. Does anyone know of such a sheet (by mail, print from the internet, etc.)? I've seen some containing protein, Vitamin A and C, but that's about it. Thank you, Jennifer
Guest guest
Hi Jennifer, Offer a rainbow of fruits and veggies every day and lots of whole grains and water. If you try to follow a chart as you have described, you will make youself crazy and turn meals into battles. Toddlers have eating days and non eating days. Some days they just want to graze and other days they want big meals. Some days they only eat frozen peas and frozen blueberries. This is truly a time of developmental wonders in your daughter's life. Enjoy! Guest guest
I did the same thing when my daughter was in her first year of solids. I couldn't find any great guidelines online so I went and made my own info sheets, detailing things like how much protein, certain vitamins etc. were needed for her developmental stage/age. I googled " calcium needs 15 months " or something like that to get an idea. It did give me something to sort of reassure myself by although like Robin said, you can NOT let yourself get crazy about it. You can lead a horse to water. . . I had a great toddler class taught by a nutritionist who told us to think about kids' eating habits not by the meal, but more by the week, does it even out more or less? She also stressed very often that we are born with a good idea of how much we want to eat to get the nutrition we need. She said problems begin when we try to re-set that clock by insisting on certain amounts of food etc. She cited studies where they had a group of toddlers, offering them a full " buffet " to choose their own meals from. At first of course they all went for the cookies and things, but as they became accustomed to being allowed whatever they wanted, they branched out and ate rather balanced meals (over a week, not meal by meal). She simplified the idea by saying " It is the parent's job to offer a variety of healthy foods several times per day. It is the child's job to decide how much, and what to eat. " Another reason I liked having that research is that my husband (and of course my in-laws) are not vegetarian (although they are fairly open-minded along with being nosy and opinionated hee hee) and it really helped to be able to tell them that I knew what I was doing. So having the research to back me up was nice, but really just offering a variety of healthy foods (with treats sprinkled in, you don't want to make cookies into something that's too hard to get so that's all they want) you are good to go! Good Luck! Dee - robin koloms Monday, May 26, 2008 4:22 AM Re: single sheet for nutrition Hi Jennifer, Offer a rainbow of fruits and veggies every day and lots of whole grains and water.
