I am looking for a simple " greenless " breakfast smoothie (no straining required)

that includes bananas and/or another fruit, nuts, flax seeds, and dates or a

sweetener other than honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar. I've tried different

combinations of these ingredients, but haven't found the " perfect " mix.

i wrote a post about the smoothies i make a few days ago; it's widely

accepted that i make the best smoothies in the world. :) i do make green

smoothies, in which you can't taste the green, but my recipe is easily

modified to eliminate the greens. and i don't use sweetener at all; i don't

need it, because ripe bananas provide all the sweetness needed.

some people really like a super sweet smoothies, in which case a pinch or

few drops of stevia should be sufficient, or maybe a soaked date or two.

but i really have never felt the need to add sweetener so long as there's a

ripe banana in there (and i do have a sweet tooth).

this is the basic " master " recipe i've used for a long time; the additions

of leafy greens, spirulina and coconut oil are new since we went raw, and

easily eliminated. i'm not sure what you mean about needing to " strain " a

smoothie. i have a pretty basic blender and it's never had a problem

breaking up leafy greens so that we don't even notice them.

Just an FYI. I have made green smoothies I don't need to strain (and I

wouldn't strain out the pulp anyway, personally). I blend the smoothies

on " liquefy " --the fastest setting--and there are virtually NO visible

green flecks after a minute or two. So if that's why you don't want a

green smoothie, maybe you can try this method and see if it works for

you before eliminating all those nutritious greens. I really, really

load my smoothies with baby spinach, too, but it all blends smooth!

We do frozen blueberries, soymilk, yoghurt, a little frozen banana and a date.

I would suggest:

frozen bananas (cut then freeze), dates, brown rice syrup (a tiny

amount), silken tofu or vegan protein powder, almond butter, flax seed

oil, and plain almond or soy milk. Or you could go for vanilla almond

milk and skip the rice syrup because the vanilla almond milk is

already so sweet.

I don't have an exact recipe for this, so here is my best guess:

1 banana (sliced then frozen)

2 dates (remove seed)

1/4 tsp brown rice syrup

1 Tbsp silken tofu (gives it a creamy texture and adds a little more protein)

1 Tbsp vegan protein powder

1 Tbsp almond butter

1 Tbsp flax seed meal

2 Tbsp of organic baby oatmeal flakes (blends well without cooking and

gives you some complex carb)

2 cups soy or almond milk

place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

I'll have to work on this recipe and come up with the actual ratios.

I hope that gives you some ideas in the meantime. Basically, throw

everything in but the almond/soy milk, then pour in the milk until you

think it will yield a consistency that you like. Less milk for a

sticky pudding type dish, more for shakes.

I like to freeze chunks of banana and blend them with frozen strawberries in

soymilk. & nbsp; For me, it is sweet enough. & nbsp; Sometimes I add a splash of

vanilla. & nbsp; You can use peaches and banana too and add ground flax seeds to

any of them. & nbsp;

I don't really follow a recipe - I add whatever I have on hand, that

is ripe and sounds good that morning. One of my favorite all fruit

smoothies is 1 banana, 2 kiwis and a mango. I never add sweetener,

and on occasion will add flax seed or hemp seed just depending on

what I am craving that morning. I typically add a leaf or 2 of kale

to this recipe - I know you said you wanted greenless, but green

smoothies are wonderful - you get all the nutrition of the greens

without tasting them. Green Smoothies taste like the fruit in them,

not like the greens (unless you put a lot of greens in). Might I ask

why you want greenless?

I don't have measurements for you, but I have been making really

yummy smoothies for my son with banana, berries, powdered cashew,

flax, and soy milk. I havn't needed to add any sweetener but you

could.
