She has a couple of pals coming, and some family, most of whom are either veggie or vegan. Guest guest
in the past, with parties, i've always had a few things out for people to eat that are easy, and then i have a big pot of soup and some bread to serve later on, followed by dessert (doesn't have to be birthday cake). my daughter's birthday is in the fall so this past year i made a pumpkin and apple soup, my husband made some rosemary-olive no-knead bread, and we made some carrot-cake cupcakes with vegan cream cheese frosting. the whole thing took about an hour to make and was easy and everyone loved it. (i drew the line at serving the soup in individual pumpkins. as for quick and easy things to make that most people like, i usually find that dips with various dippers is best (like tortilla chips with salsa, baked potato chips (if you're willing) with homemade dip (most of them are very easy), cut-up veggies with some sort of ranch (also easy to make), hummus and/or baba ganouj with whole-grain pita, etc.), along with one big green salad and one big fruit salad. a couple of breads like mini-muffins and a fruity quick bread like banana bread or cranberry-orange bread is good, too. for a summer birthday party, i would like to set up a cut raw veggie buffet, with several different spreads (hummus, cheesy sauce, baba ganouj, vegan sour cream and chive, etc.), and provide pita for everyone to make their own fresh veggie pita sandwiches. this wouldn't take more than an hour to prepare and everyone loves a buffet. i would have fresh lemonade and fruity rooibos or white tea. then i would have strawberry shortcake for dessert. chandelle
Guest guest
we're working on the same thing here! my son will be six in a few weeks and we're planning to do a bit of a cookout for his birthday. it's an omni event, so we're doing lots of grilled veggies and seasonal foods. as there will be lots of children there, it's one of the few times i break down and buy meat analogs (veggie burgers and tofu pups) for the grill. beyond that i'm looking for ideas myself - i'll keep you posted! -- HAIKU --- Drag queens are the rea- Son I pluck my eyebrows. Guest guest
It is my daughters birthday on Tuesday (she'll be 9) and she has quite a few friends from school coming, as well as family and friends. Our party food usually consists of a fruit platter (sometimes fruit skewers if I have time) nori rolls (nori sheets, rice, avocado, soya mayonaise) crackers and veggie sticks with hommus, salsa and guacamole and a bowl of some dried fruit, carob animals etc On 24/06/2008, at 7:52 PM, krissie wrote: > hi all, > > I am throwing a small birthday party for my 5 year old daughter at the > weekend. Guest guest
We typically do not have many veg*n friends or family at any of our parties so we do things that seem to please everyone and do not seem " weird " to our omni family members. Our standards: Fruit Salad Hummus & Veggies Tortilla Chips & Salsa and Guacamole Then we may have something like a salad bar, or build your own burrito bar - they are quick and simple for prep. Might not be the cheapest route to go, but if we really wanted cheap food, we would all eat McDonalds (lol). Guest guest
For my son's 8th birthday we did a big Star Wars-themed party. Everything was vegan and we had no complaints. Mustafar cake, Yoda cupcakes, fruit tray, bowl of pretzels. What more could you ask for? :-) Pictures on my blog: food.chacha.com/blog/give-peas-a-chance Jennifer
