Guest guest
We have been eating vegan for about 6 weeks now. I have had a killer headache for the past two days. Did any of you women have headaches when you switched? Do you think it's something I'm not getting enough of in my diet? My husband thinks it's iron, so I just loaded up on some lentil soup. Just wondering if you had any insights since I'm new at this. Thanks!
Guest guest
Headaches are many times a detox process. This is very common with the switch or when detoxing. Lots of water, you can also use a tea that helps to support your liver. Feel free to contact me off list and I'm happy to give you details. Peace, Laura **************Gas prices getting you down? Guest guest
Keep a food diary to try to pinpoint what may be giving you a headache. Some common migraine triggers are msg, high fructose corn syrup (and it's evil brother, crystiline corn sugar), and vinegar. This is by no means a complete list. Guest guest
my best guess would be detox, especially if you are coming down off of a regular diet of SAD ingredients like HFCS, sugar, refined salt, and/or conventional meat and dairy. symptoms of deficiency would almost certainly not appear after only a few weeks unless you were very deficient to begin with. i switched to vegan from a vegetarian version of the SAD and experienced headaches, body aches, mood swings and exhaustion for about a month. for my BIL and his wife it took about two months for them to feel normal. you're detoxing from all kinds of hormones and chemicals if you're switching from a diet that included meat and dairy. try to add some fresh vegetable and fruit juices if you can and lots of whole grains; whole grains can ease detox symptoms. brown rice and quinoa are good choices. headaches are not one of the more common signs of iron deficiency, but they are one of the most common detox symptoms. if the headache is a sign of iron deficiency it would be a frontal headache, so that's something to consider. another consideration is if you are suddenly dramatically increasing your intake of soy, particularly processed soy, as many people do when they are trying a veg*n diet for the first time. soy is a very common allergen and headaches can be an indication of a sensitivity. chandelle
Guest guest
Hi. Several years ago, I learned by accident that taking magnesium prevents headaches (especially migraines). I now take 500mg on an empty stomach, and I don't feel quite the same when I forget. HTH, Laura , " iluvk5 " <skerns wrote: > > We have been eating vegan for about 6 weeks now. Guest guest
I'm usually more of a reader than a poster but I thought I'd chime in on this one... When you change your diet for the better you begin to detox. Some of the major signs of detox include headaches, acne, sluggishness, etc. When all of the junk is out of your body (it takes a different amount of time for everyone) you'll feel like a brand new you. Don't let people tell you it's because your missing nutrients. As long as you're eating a balanced diet, you're fine. A lot of people get discouraged by the feeling of detox and think it's because their diet is lacking. The only thing that's lacking is all the garbage. Hang in there! , " iluvk5 " <skerns wrote: > > We have been eating vegan for about 6 weeks now. I have had a killer > headache for the past two days.
