We have not been eating the best foods lately and we had started getting colds

and tummy illnesses :(  My body is not feeling the best, either, even though I

am in the gym 5 days a week.

I am looking into a juice fast to start on Wednesday.  One common recommendation

I am reading is not to do a juice fast if you are breastfeeding.  I am a nursing

mom, and the thought of Detox may have to be held at bay until my daughter is

weaned.

Anyone familiar with juice fasting as a parent.  Am I not going to be able do

any type of detox while nursing?  Am I able to continue going to the gym while

fasting?  Am I going to need my husband to stay home to watch our daughter while

fasting (I heard you may faint, which is a huge deterrent for me)...

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

in my opinion, if you're fainting, you're detoxing way too fast and you

should have signs before that occurs that something is wrong.

detoxing through fasting while breastfeeding is not recommended because the

toxins can be released into breastmilk. i would really not recommend doing

a juice fast while nursing for this reason. some babies go on a nursing

strike because the breastmilk tastes bad during a fast. i would say, wait

it out, try other methods of easy detox (like eating more raw foods, doing a

lot of smoothies, doing more yoga, sweats, body brushing, etc.) until you're

done nursing. i know people have done it but i think the risks outweigh the

benefits when you're nursing. the body is already in a delicate balance

while pregnant or breastfeeding and those toxins and the stress on your body

can be profoundly irritating to a nursing child. i'm sure some people will

agree with me but i've worked with nursing women who try a fast and it never

seems to go well. there are a lot of other ways to cleanse. you can

certainly drink a lot of juices, especially wheatgrass and other green

juices, and eat more raw foods, and have a good effect without the excessive

strain of a full juice fast leading to rapid detox.

HTH!
