Guest guest
In response to the dishwasher question, not sure why you asked, but if it has anything to do with plastics, be careful washing any plastics in hot water like your dishwasher would do. Certain plastics release toxins when heated. , Rebeca Llasaca <rllasaca wrote: > > I wonder how other vegetarian - vegan parents handle the issue of: Using microwave and dishwasher? > Do you avoid the use of them? Guest guest
That is an interesting obsevation about the dishwasher. I would assume it must be safe, but I would contact the manufacture and find out what the inside is made of if I were concerned. Our dishwasher is stainless steel inside, so if that is an option for you, you could replace it with such. As for the microwave, I only use it to reheat some foods, but never for cooking meals. It's about convenience and moderation. Of course I grew up without a microwave, so I was never accustomed to using one for cooking meals. ( My silly husband, however, had no idea how to reheat food when our microwave broke once! lol) It has been said using micro to heat breast milk will destroy the nutrition of the milk, and I have heard using micro to heat blood(for transfusion) could kill the patient. Microwaves DO emit electromagnetic radiation, which I believe definatley could be harmful to the food. So I do think it is advisable to try to limit microwave use. ~Danielle , Rebeca Llasaca <rllasaca wrote: > > Thanks guys, for your inputs about microwave and dishwasher. I always tried to avoid the use of microwave, I do not use plastics at all in it, but some times when I am in a hurry it seems like microwave is my only option. > Regarding to dishwasher, I almost never use it, even when I have one in my kitchen. When I see the material that it has, sort of plastic (white color) wrapping the inside of it, I kind of wonder if it is OK to use it or maybe with the hot water these materials can release some kind of chemicals that can be harmful, but of course we do not notice it, or maybe I am just a little too paranoid about anything that can look as plastic. > Rebeca > > --- On Sat, 7/19/08, iluvk5 <skerns wrote: > iluvk5 <skerns > Re: Microwave and dishwasher! > > Saturday, July 19, 2008, 9:48 AM > > > > > In response to the dishwasher question, not sure why you asked, but if > > it has anything to do with plastics, be careful washing any plastics > > in hot water like your dishwasher would do.
