Guest guest
Please help bring these baby boys back home to their parents! http://www.wsbtv.com/video/17018923/index.html <http://www.wsbtv.com/video/17018923/index.html> " Vegetarian Lifestyle Led Child Services to Remove Kids " The above story was shown on WSBTV on 7/30/08. I was so upset after watching this; I called the station and ended up speaking to the reporter, Tom Jones. The Thomas' premature baby boy briefly became unconscious, so the parents called 911. The infant was initially cleared by the paramedics, but the parents decided to bring him to the hospital to be absolutely sure he was okay. A couple of doctors initially cleared him for release, then another doctor intervened and had the baby turned over to the " care " of the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS). FYI, Tom Jones was shown hospital documentation indicating that the baby boy was NOT malnourished. Later, DFCS took their older 2 year old son away as well! It has been a month since their sons were taken away, and a day after this story was aired, the parents were allowed a 2-hour visit. However, the parents have no idea when they can take their baby boys home. I spoke to the father, Kamani Thomas, last night. I don't think they can afford to get a lawyer. Here is a blog that he wrote on 7/22/08 explaining the details of the circumstances: http://ausarisgreen.blogspot.com/ <http://ausarisgreen.blogspot.com/> The following paragraph is probably redundant info for all of you... but just in case you want to use it for letter writing, here goes: The American Dietetic Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics agree that well-planned vegan and vegetarian diets can satisfy the nutritional needs and promote normal growth of infants and young children: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/521903 <http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/521903> More than anything, a premature infant needs to be breast fed and to be physically close to his mother. Generally speaking, doctors not experts in nutrition. Doctors receive less than 40 hours of nutritional training during their 4 years of medical school: http://www.med-ed-online.org/res00023.htm <http://www.med-ed-online.org/res00023.htm> The issue at stake here is defending a parent's choice to raise a vegetarian child on organic food if they so desire. Please stand up against this act of injustice and help reunite this family!
