Guest guest
I have been trying to find a lunch kit (box with small containers) with stainless steel containers (trying really hard to get away from plastic touching food. Guest guest
I have a tiffin, which you can find here: http://www.fokal.com/designfix/Traditional-Tiffin-Lunch-Box-Set Mine came from a different company, but I do use it a lot. I don't know how kid-friendly that is, though. > I have been trying to find a lunch kit (box with small containers) with > stainless steel containers (trying really hard to get away from plastic > touching food. Guest guest
Hi Robin, I've heard of folks getting stainless steel bento boxes online and in Asian markets, if you have any near you. Ikea also has some stackable stainless steel boxes that I hear good things about. Sorry I'm not much help with a link or anything, I've only heard talk about these. :-) I'm sure you could google them. Good luck! Guest guest
I do not know how big you want the containers to be, but try looking for spice jars. I found some stainless steel ones which are stout not tall. I cannot recall how many ounces they hold. Guest guest
Hi Marla, This looks like it doesn't have any insulation (I'm sort of obsessed with bacteria), but thanks for the suggestion. Guest guest
Robin, Several of my kids don't want to take lunch boxes to school because they think it's uncool. They would rather have paper bags. It's hard to put any container in a paper bag and have it not tear the bag and still have the container come home. What about using waxed paper bags? There are some recycled ones I get at the health food store that aren't overly expensive and are big enough so that you can fold them shut. The bags are also made from recycled materials. When one of the kids (the ones not taking paper bags) wants to take something hot or cold, I put it in a stainless steel thermos made by Thermos. You have to heat or cool them before you use them by putting really hot or really cold water in them and letting them sit closed for about five minutes, but they keep the food at the temperature you want. Guest guest
What we've been using is an insulated bag with a combination of small containers, thermos and wax bags; with an ice pack to keep it cold. I would love to find small stainless containers to replace the plastic; glass makes me nervous. --- On Mon, 8/4/08, Gayle <dilemma5 wrote: Gayle <dilemma5 Re: Lunch Boxes Monday, August 4, 2008, 7:17 AM Robin, Several of my kids don't want to take lunch boxes to school because they think it's uncool. Guest guest
I didn't realize about the carrier until everyone started posting, I am going to have to get one for work. The only thing is for some reason I don't care for the wooden utensils (except for the chopsticks). I found (do not laugh at me everyone please) a titanium spork.. it is $9, but I have had it for about 2 years and I take it everywhere - works for soup/ salad and it is camping quality so lightweight and travels well in just about anything.. my son is on a kick now too- I know it is a little kitchy, but it works for us so we have utensils on the go to avoid using disposables when we are out on picnics, visiting others etc. Paige _____ On Behalf Of Vegan Linda Tuesday, August 05, 2008 8:19 AM Re: Lunch Boxes I second to-go ware and there is a carrying bag now too!
