Guest guest
Is the no plastic issue here the obvious 'not wrecking the planet' one alone or is there something else about plastic I should also know? Please and thank you. SoyPalmtree
Guest guest
I know there has been a lot on the news lately about limiting the use of plastics not only for the environmental benefits, but for the increasing health concerns. They suggest limiting food use mostly to 1's and 2's. Although if possible they recommend not using plastics, which I have found very difficult. Ever taste the difference in something bottled in plastic versus glass? The plastic leeches into the food, even just as it sits on the shelf. But here are a couple of links for further research: http://hubpages.com/hub/Safe-Plastics-Vs-Unsafe-Plastics http://www.alive.com/4295a12a2.php?subject_bread_cramb=182 check below lots of links to further articles http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/12/26/health_concerns_ripple_ove\ r_hard_plastic_water_bottles/ Laura Ballinger Morales SoyPalmtree SoyPalmtree <soypalmtree Thursday, August 7, 2008 2:47:50 PM No Plastic ? Guest guest
There is some evidence that when some substances touch plastic (strong detergents, fats), then toxins leach out. I try to not put any food in plastics, esp fats. This is why I have been trying to find small, stainless steel containers for salad dressing, hoummous, etc. --- On Thu, 8/7/08, SoyPalmtree SoyPalmtree <soypalmtree wrote: SoyPalmtree SoyPalmtree <soypalmtree No Plastic ? Guest guest
Hi Laura, Thanks for these links! I have a sheet on the fridge that says to mostly use 2's, 4's and 5's - and that 1's " have unreacted phthalate monomer in PET . . . which could be leached into packed contents in certain conditions, but those resins do not use Bisphenol A (BPA) during polymerization and package forming. " And I just found something else online that says use mostly 1's, 2's, 4's and 5's. Ugh - I better research this more. Thanks!
