Guest guest
Tanya--Are you eating a lot of pasta or potatoes, or other starchy foods? I'd also suspect the dairy. Corn syrup is also notorious for weight gain, and it is in a LOT of processed foods. Butter? Cheese? Too many nuts? I am also a very overweight woman, mostly vegan at this point, although I do " slip " on occasion. It is hard because I am passionate about nutrition, and try my best, but I am not exactly a good example of a healthy vegan, so not a great advertisement for the lifestyle, for myself, my husband, or my kids. I think the more raw vegan we eat, the better. Maybe try eliminating cooked food for a while and see if that helps (it should). I know this would help me, too, although I never keep it up long enough to really benefit from it as I know I can. There is the " raw food boot camp " for those who are truly serious about weight loss (don't have the web addy offhand--sorry!). There are also the eating plans of Dr. McDougall (although he does emphasize lots of starchy foods, it seems to help some), Dr. Fuhrman (he does allow some meat and dairy, but almost none, and ideally none), and Hallelujah Acres (mostly raw vegan, Christian). Just some thoughts. I'm " there " too. Marilyn **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Read reviews on AOL Autos. Guest guest
Oh yeah--DUH!!! I also joined that vegan weight loss club. Hasn't started yet, though. I'd forgotten about that--thanks! And also thanks to those mentioning exercise. I bought a rebounder last year, which I LOVE (and my kids do, too). And just yesterday, my husband picked up a treadmill I got free from someone on freecycle. Craigslist is also a great place to find cheap or free exercise equipment. And those places, plus eBay or amazon, are great places to find cheap or free videos like yoga, Richard Simmons, and exercise tapes or DVD's specifically for older, handicapped, out of shape, or overweight individuals. I have several of these, and I think they are SO much better than looking at a thin 20-something in spandex bouncing around for an hour, sweating prettily! LOL! Guest guest
Ok so here's the thing. I am the fattest vegetarian that I know. It is funny because 17 years ago (before I was a vegetarian) I weighed 135 lbs, and now I weigh a wopping 235. What the heck!!! since I stopped eating meat my weight has slowley crept up, and now it is out of control. I am a lacto ovo vegetarian. I only eat eggs from my sisters chickens because she has no roosters and they are not fertile. I just don't understand. My friends say that I am the healthiest eater that they know. I have had my thyroid tested and it is fine. I have found the GI diet and it looks like something that I can follow. Here is my questions. Am I the only one? and. Has anyone else tried this diet. I am desperate to loose this weight and feel better. Tanya
Guest guest
I think there are lots of unknowns in this. Depends on your total calorie intake, do you exercise etc. tanya wynette <wynettelove Friday, August 8, 2008 9:56:20 AM GI diet Ok so here's the thing. I am the fattest vegetarian that I know. Guest guest
I walk about twice a week and do belly dancing once a week. But other than that I am just hanging out and playing with my kids. I have realized that I need to do more and am starting to make those changes. Tanya --- lakshmi rao <laks_class12 wrote: > I think there are lots of unknowns in this. Guest guest
I was having a similiar problem and found the only thing I could add to the equation is exercise. Even walking somewhere instead of driving. I've joined the gym, and now back to a weight I'm happy with. Maybe that would work for you? tanya wynette <wynettelove Friday, August 8, 2008 10:56:20 AM GI diet Ok so here's the thing. I am the fattest vegetarian that I know. Guest guest
You definitely aren't the only one. In fact, the Veg Family web community is starting a weight loss club. Here's a link: http://www.vegfamily.com/health/vegan-weightloss-club.htm Being veg*n doesn't necessarily mean being thin -- a lot of less-than healthy foods are vegan, and portion control is always an issue. Good luck! Heather tanya wynette wrote: > > Ok so here's the thing. I am the fattest vegetarian > that I know. Guest guest
I am also on the chubby side. I suggest that you keep a food diary for a few weeks; write down every bite (including what was left on the kids plates) that you put in your mouth. When you see what you are consuming, you may be very surprised. --- On Fri, 8/8/08, tanya wynette <wynettelove wrote: tanya wynette <wynettelove GI diet Friday, August 8, 2008, 9:56 AM Ok so here's the thing. Guest guest
Hi Tanya, Have you had your blood sugar tested? My vegetarian partner was gaining weight before he was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Now he's changed his diet slightly (less white flours/pastas/sugars, learning about balancing proteins with carbs, and learning about glycemically-neutral foods) and increased his exercise a bit, and got on meds (which I don't love, but he's okay with). It's worth at least eliminating it as an issue for you. Oh, and by the way, you might want to ask for your blood test numbers and the normal ranges, because my partner was near the cut-off for diagnosis for a long time, and since he didn't pass that number, they never mentioned to him to start preliminary interventions. Ugh. Best of luck!! Lorraine On Behalf Of tanya wynette Friday, August 08, 2008 7:56 AM GI diet Ok so here's the thing. I am the fattest vegetarian that I know. Guest guest
YW, Tanya. No judgement here. At 4'11 " and 176 lbs., I am not judging ANYONE but myself! See--now I'VE put myself out there, too. Guest guest
Hi Tanya, Oh, who cares about your weight! The only thing that crossed my mind in your post was your health and well-being! I think YOU are great for taking care of yourself and looking into your health in a wise, informed way. And being a vegetarian makes you cool in my book, too. :-) Have a great weekend!
