Guest guest
Hi Tammy, As long as your toddler is eating a variety of foods throughout the week, water is a fine beverage. I am looking for a vegan, (preferrably) organic toddler drink that would be able to replace her formula. I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas any of you may have. Thanks so much! Guest guest
Have you tried just NOT giving the formula? Children will not starve or drive themselves to dying from thirst...Just a thought. When my son seems to ONLY ask for juice or chocolate hemp milk, and he needs more water, I don't give in, I just say we have ice water, or plain water, after a few times of my not giving in, he takes the water instead/finally. Otherwise, I guess you could mix it 3:1 with soymilk or rice milk or hempmilk (all high or enriched with calcium, Vit. D and so on -hemp milk is very high in protein and also omega 3 and 6's). You could also try oatmilk, or nutmilks (if you're ok'd for treenuts - my SIL was told not to give her daughter any nuts till 3yrs old). Then slowly decrease the formula (maybe do the above for a week, then half and half for a week, then 1:3 and then another week do full 'other milk'. you might have to experiment in different brands/kinds to find one that your child likes. I found that I actually don't like any of the oatmilks (too slimey for my tastes, and this was commercial ones - and diluted it was just gross and still slimey, but my son and husband loved it, I had the same issue with rice milk - they also liked these, but ironically, I love barley tea...heh.) I only really like hempmilk and soymilk. Crazy, but true. Don't give up. Oh, and our vegan cheese we love is oat and rice milk 'cheese', which I am super fond of, just not in milk form I guess - I like them as oatmeal or rice...LOL. I'm just weird, I suppose. Good luck. Guest guest
HI My son is 15 months old and he has Farley's soya formula, it is the only one in the UK that is vegan. And unfortunately there is no organic vegan formulas yet. I have been told by two separate nutritionalists that he can have this till 2 or 3. But up until 2 soy milk alone is not recommend, as it does not have enough fat or calcium. Then at 2 I must get the brands with a tick next to calcium. and full fat. 2 x 7 oz cups of formula a day is enough. On the packet it does say for babies, children and adults! You can defiantly make sure you give calcium rich foods, such as apricots, chickpeas, thahini, dark green veg, black molasses, seaweed etc. Also if you cook with soya milk he will still be getting it. Have you tried the flavoured soya milks? or the soya yoghurts? I am a life long vegan, so are my siblings, and my mum never had all this overdose of information and we are all fine without formula or soya milk. And she didn't breastfeed for 2 years either. I give Farleys just to make me 100% sure my son gets what he needs, plus it has b12 and loads of other vitamins, I know that with this and a bowl of ready brek, if he is being fussy about eating he is still getting all he needs. I will probably stop formula around 2 -2 1/2. Hope that helps Ez x , " tammykotowski " <tammykotowski wrote: > > Hi Everyone > My 19 month old is still drinking formula and does not drink enough > soy milk throughout the day to give this up.
