Guest guest
Scary stuff from today's Chicago tribune: http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/features_julieshealthclub/2008/09/hidden\ -sources.html Can anything be more ridiculous than that a man should have the right to kill me because he lives on the other side of the water, and because his ruler has a quarrel with mine. - Blaise Pascal
Guest guest
Definitely scary! But I agree with most of the people who posted comments--now tell us EXACTLY what products are dangerous--and which are SAFE! Avoid recycled paper? All toilet paper (can that possibly be)? Organic canned tomatoes (which brands--I use this almost daily)? I would have liked further information on this. Marilyn **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? Guest guest
Kind of interesting that this post came within the last couple of days. I heard on NPR radio this morning that the FDA is saying they have reviewed a couple of the most significant studies on the safety of PBAs and are saying that they really aren't all that dangerous. They all but said that the FDA was ready to give the okay to the use of plastics with this chemical in it. Hmmmmm, wondering what kind of lobbying was going on there? Guest guest
Thanks for clarifying, Heather, even if I don't like the answer! Guess I buy the more expensive Eden Organic beans from now on. I was buying Shop Rite or 365 Organics brands, to save a little money. Ugh. My husband's gonna love it. I wonder if Eden makes canned diced tomatoes. Marilyn **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? There's a new fashion blog, plus the latest fall trends and hair styles at StyleList.com. Guest guest
The Environmental Working Group has an analysis of BPA in U.S. canned food at http://www.ewg.org/reports/bisphenola As I understand it, BPA is used in the lining of all canned tomato products (organic or not), because the lining is needed to protect the cans from the acidity of the tomatoes. Canned beans are another product with high levels. The only company they found at the time of their research that wasn't using BPA in their cans was Eden Organics. The controversy is mostly focused on plastics, food and beverage cans, and things like dental sealants. However, there is likely to be BPA in many recycled products, including toilet paper, if the materials are combined with plastics or thermal paper during the recycling process. This piece says almost all paper does have at least some recycled content, so I guess it's not too big of a stretch to say it's in all toilet paper. http://www.buildinggreen.com/live/index.cfm/2008/8/26/Toilet-paper-bisphenol-A-w\ astewater-recycled Heather Clark http://unsheeply.net , sahmomof8 wrote: > > Definitely scary!
