Guest guest
I love this man dearly. He is a wonderful, considerate, thoughtful man, on a normal daily basis--really! But when it comes to food--just shoot me now so I don't have to deal with it anymore! He is not a vegetarian, does not want to be, and is still resisting the connection between what he eats and his health (which is not great). He has been willing to " cut down " on his meat and dairy consumption. He eats my vegetarian meals without complaint. I even managed to serve spagetti last night without him commenting about not having chopped meat to go on top (and that's progress, believe me!). But today is his birthday. This means I can't/won't comment about what he wants to eat, and he knows it. And he wants his " traditional " birthday meals, as he does every year. And what does he want? Eggs Benedict for breakfast (complete with Canadian bacon), and pork chops for dinner!!!! I get a stomach ache just thinking about eggs, hollandaise sauce and white flour english muffins, let along eating it! And I can't even imagine touching that bacon! And PORK CHOPS??? This man is trying to kill me. He's more than willing to cook for himself, which is great since I would really have a hard time with that. He's now in the kitchen, happily making his Eggs Benedict. Later on, he will happily be baking himself an angel food cake with homemade chocolate whipped cream frosting--which I also can not eat (not just " won't " --CAN'T). I feel bad that I can't cook for him on his special day, but it's obviously just not an option. Marilyn **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? Guest guest
Sounds like he is enjoying himself in the kitchen, so I wouldn't feel too bad on that front. You spend all the other days taking care of everyone else. Let him do it for his bday. I'd be annoyed too if my meat-eating husband wanted to cook ham and pork chops in my kitchen though. He has done that sort of thing on rare occasions but tends to buy reheatable things he can just do in the microwave if he REALLY wants to have it at home. It's stinky and gross though. I hope you can bring him around, keep telling him you just want him to be healthy. Even his doctor would be telling him to " eat less red meat " most likely, right? And if he's eating your veg meals mostly without complaint, that really really is progress. It took my husband a bit at first but he's one of those people who really doesn't care what he eats most of the time (which kinda bums me out sometimes since i love food! ha ha! women always have to be so contrary!) so I don't get much complaint from him, he's just glad when I have time to cook something. But anyway yes, vent to us but give him his bday. :-) You are doing the right thing. Keep nagging him the rest of the year, for his health if nothing else! Gently of course. good luck!
