Guest guest
I am actually trying to convince my husband to get a small table for my son to sit at...he wants to sit at the big table but it's far to high for him to be comfortable at so he stands up. actually I usually still put him in his high chair when hye'll let me so he is strapped in he will sit still longer. , Colleen Mahdi <befrrrree wrote: > > We always had a " kids " table and an " big " table right next to each other, so that we had dinner together and still talked. I always felt that the whole " big " chairs was intimidating to small people. They eventually wanted top sit at the bigger table. As for keeping them at the table, when we are all engaged in conversation, everyone stays at the table. When it is a " rush " meal or noone is really talking we eat and go. I really didn't like that whole wait for everyone to finish, but we do wait for everyone to start. It's probably my own issues, though! Sometimes kids seem to just want to feel to be in control of themselves. > Colleen > > > > >
Guest guest
We purchased a child's chair at the local wooden furniture place ( " Wood You " ). It is high like a barstool with a curved back so both arms touch the table top to keep the child from falling over. It is made for children so it is narrow - an adult cannot sit in it. It pulls right up to the table in place of your regular chair and the child can reach without standing up or sitting on knees. It is not a high chair - does not have a tray and does not have straps. You may want to use a long towel to tie your child in for awhile so he does not slip out and hurt himself. Since the base is as not as wide as a high chair you may want to put it against a wall or lock in in somehow until your child knows not to push against the table. DD did knock hers over once. Obviously they are not recommended for infants. My DD is 5 yo and still uses her. We bought this when she was an infant - we have never had a high chair. I wish I could remeber the correct name for the chair. It is not expensive. I think we paid $35. Then we stained and poly'd it. The store would do that for us but then the price jumped to $75. Anyway, we have always been able to sit as a family at the table. (She also had a small table that we used for snacks during the day when she was younger.)
