Guest guest
Can your child take the Emergen-C tablet on a regular basis? How old do they need to be? I didn't know they made a child version. Thanks, Cassie --- On Fri, 11/7/08, jenni claire garverick <jennigarverick wrote: jenni claire garverick <jennigarverick Re: Immune booster? Friday, November 7, 2008, 1:34 AM Hi- IMO, your daughter is ABSOLUTELY getting more colds because she's being exposed to more germs. My daughter (oldest of 3) started Kindergarten this year, never having previously been in a school setting of the non-small-parent- co-op-variety. We, too, have been a family of few colds for as long as we've had kids, and this year, let me tell you, it's been one thing after another. I also tell you this as a former public school teacher- kids really spread it around. Teachers are renowned for being constantly sick their first few years of teaching, and then after they've built up the immunities, all is back to normal. I also read one study where school teachers have more germs come home with them on their clothes than any other profession- including nurses (something like up to 52,000 different types)! I know she's not in 'school' per se, but the concept's the same. I've found Kids Emergen-c to be helpful, and tasty. No worries. This, too, shall pass. ____________ _________ _________ __ ad00rable_1 <nkiffer (AT) comcast (DOT) net> @gro ups.com Thursday, November 6, 2008 1:10:15 PM Immune booster? My vegan daughter is a month shy of 3 years old. Since we went veg it seemed like we were rarely ill and if we were the duration was short. I took a lot of pride in that. This summer we were transferred from a small town where we didn't get out much to a city where we are out all the time (which is absolutely a blessing)! While I am at the gym 3 times a week she is in the childcare there for an hour at a time. She is also in a childcare setting for Sunday school for a couple of hours each week. I don't know if this is the reason, but it seems like since autumn hit she is getting cold after cold. She is naturally weaning and is down to just a short nighttime nursing session. So she isn't getting many antibodies from that anymore. 1. I'm looking for feedback...is she starting to catch more colds b/c of being around more kids? B/c of shorter nursing sessions? Both? My bigger concern is that she is lacking something nutritionally. I think I often fear judgement from that so I just want to be sure of myself. 2. What can i do to help her? Is there a way I can help to boost her immune system and to help her to not get bombarded with virus after virus? Thanks so much!
Guest guest
Hi- I don't have a box on hand at the moment, but I think the mgs of vitamin c, etc. is downsized a bit for the child's body. Off the top of my head, I want to say it's 500mg instead of the adult-sized 1000 mg. I've given it to my kids as young as 2, although I will say I try to water it down a bit, or only let them take 2 or so a day, just in case. I usually get that particular one at Whole Foods, and it comes in Strawberry, which is pretty tasty, and perhaps orange. I've also given regular emergen-c to my kids, but definitely water it down or limit how many they can have to 1 or 2 a day. Geez, I wish I had some so I could look at the box, but as I said we've been having quite a time with the colds around here, so we go through it pretty quickly! ________________________________ Cassie Dixon <roxy87cabriolet Friday, November 7, 2008 6:43:22 PM Jenni Re: Immune booster? Guest guest
EmergenC makes a kids multi; my daughter hated it though; she likes the regular raspberry best. --- On Fri, 11/7/08, Cassie Dixon <roxy87cabriolet wrote: Cassie Dixon <roxy87cabriolet Jenni Re: Immune booster? Guest guest
We have found that a homeopathic formula called Oscillococcinum helps us stave off colds, flu, and other bugs if taken at the first sign of illness. It's pretty expensive, but not when compared to the expense of getting the whole family sick, paying the co-pay to have the pediatrician check for strep or ear infections, lost work time, etc. It is sold at natural foods markets like Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage. Guest guest
That's made from Duck hearts and livers, so that would make it not vegetarian, just in case you didn't know. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscillococcinum Missie On Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 11:45 AM, Michelle Slattery <peakresearch wrote: > We have found that a homeopathic formula called Oscillococcinum helps us > stave > off colds, flu, and other bugs if taken at the first sign of illness.
