Turkey Day

One different take we have on the whole Turkey Day thing is from Native

Americans, who saw turkey as a symbol of give-away. It sure helps to

tell and retell that story to my kids.

We have tried hard to create traditions involving gratidude and because

we are blessed to live in San Diego, we are usually able to incorporate

a hike into our day.

But I do hate the whole holiday revolving around food, especially a

dead bird. And the weird songs and games that they teach the kids in

school. If the kids really knew that the poor turkey was going to be

killed and that they would be eating a dead bird....

My friend (NOT a vegetarian) told me her son said isn't it funny that

there's an animal called a chicken and a food we eat called chicken...?

Yeah, funny.

At least if my kids do start eating meat someday, they will know where

it came from.
