Guest guest
Love these greens recipes! Pls keep 'em comin'. I agree about green smoothies and do that just about every morning. It's part of my transition to eat more raw. They are delicious!! Victoria Boutenko's coming out with a book next year called Green Smoothie Revolution (something like that...) with around 150 recipes just for green smoothies, can't wait to check that out. Anyway, the easiest recipe is 2 ripe bananas, 8 oz or so of juice or water, blend, add a big handful of raw greens and maybe 8 oz or so of ice, blend on high till smooth. Yum! My daughter loves these. You can add agave nectar if desired or flavorings like vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa powder etc. although you may be surprised how yummy they are straight up. I like to add ground flax seed. Tip: start out with just a few leaves and taste with a spoon, add more if it tastes OK. Some greens have a more noticeable taste than others. p.s. I don't have a Vitamix or other fancy high-speed blender, just a Kitchenaid blender and am amazed at how well it blends those greens up! The only trouble I have is with tiny stems like on mint -- it doesn't chop those well, but stems on chard, kale, etc. seem to blend fine. Angelique p.s. to Shanel, I'm in the Sacramento area and have found Meetup.com to be a great resource for meeting other local vegans, vegan parents, even raw vegans. It's free for people attending meetups, only costs money if you want to start your own group. So, you might want to do a search and see if there are any local to you. Must be a zillion vegan parents in the bay area. How wonderful to be kind of close to the I Am Grateful cafes (raw vegan) -- we love their pizzas.
