Krissie,

I tell my moms in my birthing classes to try chlorophyll. You can get veggie

caps to make it easy. 2-3 each day. This should bring you iron levels right

back up in a week.

Any other questions feel free to email me directly

Peace,

Laura

problem in their pregnancy? any ideas?

I was anaemic during my last trimester of my pregnancy. It's common in pregnant

women and you'll be normal after your delivery but take the Iron tablets along

with Raisins, Dates. I remember even my doctor gave me some prenatal's which had

gelatin and I got to throw it away and buy non-gelatin tablets. Your doing great

having lots of greens in your diet.

Good luck and have a joyful pregnancy.

Blackstrap Molasses is a very good source of iron.

Spinach " binds " with iron and very little gets absorbed.

I had very low iron after a miscarriage (and issues with that).  I was lucky

enough to have an ob/gyn who is a vegetarian and she had me use an iron pill

with no gelatin.  There are over the counter ones out there.  She also told me

to push the Cream of Wheats/Coco Wheats since they have lots of iron...and of

course the greens.  I think with just that extra effort and knowing it's an

issue you can get your iron back up.

It sounds like you are doing what is necessary.

I remember having constipation issues with the amount of iron in my pre-natal

vitamin.  Have you been taking one of those as well?  I know there is a

vegetarian prenatal on a Vegan website (can't find it just now)...

I was only ever borderline anemic, and I'm sure at the time I didn't

think to read what was in my pre-natal vites to see if they were veg

or not.

I did find these vegan prenatal vitamins, would those help you?

http://www.veganstore.com/deva-vegan-prenatal-vitamin/Page_1/216.html

says 117% USRDA for iron.

There is also this one:

http://www.veganstore.com/now-iron-complex/Page_1/796.html

But it has other stuff in it that I don't know if it's ok to have

while pregnant, perhaps you could ask your Doctor/midwife/CNA or

whomever if it is you go to if it's ok for you to take. :)

I am pregnant right now and i have found that my prenatals give a

great amount of iron dispite my midwife having some concern about me

being vegetarian and severly lactose intolerant. I take New Chapter

Organics perfect prenatal they are 100% vegetarian. I have also

found that they help greatly with morning sickness if you are

experiencing it. I also eat a whole grain cereal high in iron

loaded with fortified vanilla soy milk andtons of fresh fruit like

strawberries. It seems to help get me off on the right foot in the

morning. It gives me instant and sustained energy.

a lot of women, veg or not, have iron issues. Keep eating lots of

greens and pick up an iron supplement from your local natural food

store. Along with my vegan pre-natals, I took Country Life Iron Aid.

It has iron, vit. C, B12, and folic acid. It's vegetarian.
