Guest guest
Sorry if this seems off topic, but you were the first group I thought to ask. Being that most vegans/vegetarians believe in using natural products, how do you ladies feel about prescribed birth control pills? I have taken them since college and am now starting to question whether or not to take them. It seems so unnatural to put that in your body. Have any of you been through this same thought process? Thanks!
Guest guest
I never had issues with them, until I went off of them. It took around a year for my cycles to even return, let alone stabilize. If you are on them for medical issues (PCOS or whatever) then it's probably best to stay on them. If not getting pregnant is still a concern, there are now more options available (new IUDs that are safe/effective - I've seen plastic ones recently in some ad somewhere, as well as other kinds of personal b/c options). Of course, I don't know where they get the chemicals (or what/if they test any of them on, or what's in them, etc, etc). I'd look at why you were a vegetarian, and see if it's in line with that, too, to continue or not. We use different methods and options now that don't involve messing with my body chemistry. At the time, my larger concerns were accidental pregnancy and such. I'm not so worried about it now, heh. Guest guest
I went on them between pregnancies around 15 years ago and had immediate vaginal yeast infections. I never had them before or after. So I quit after 3 months. My doctor had never heard of that problem. Now I've read in many places that they can cause a lasting yeast problem. I would stay away. You don't want that. Also, our hormones are messed with in so many ways now (food/ environment/etc). Why make matters worse with a pill? We used diaphrams with success for many years. Guest guest
For a completely natural method you could google Sympto-Thermal. With it you get really in tune with your cycle, so if you do decide to have another baby it can help you get pregnant too. iluvk5 wrote: > > Sorry if this seems off topic, but you were the first group I thought > to ask. Guest guest
NFP (natural family planning) methods work best with women who have very regular cycles. What is great about barrier methods (condom, diaphram) is that you control them. --- On Thu, 1/22/09, Heather Hossfeld <hlh4850 wrote: Heather Hossfeld <hlh4850 Re: birth control Thursday, January 22, 2009, 6:57 PM For a completely natural method you could google Sympto-Thermal. Guest guest
My cycles aren't super regular. Between 3 yrs of nursing (my daughter just naturally weaned two months ago (days before her 3rd birthday)), and stressors that often creep in that delay ovulation etc. But, I know all of this b/c of charting my cycles. I've charted for about 6 yrs now and use that as my BC. We use a barrier method every now and again when I know its a day that I could get pregnant. Charting has been amazing. As someone else said, you are very in tune with your body and its helped me to answer quite a few health concerns I've had over the years. -- Take care & God bless. Guest guest
One sure way to take care of it is to have your husband get snipped... My husband did it...he tells everyone i had 4 children for him it is the least he could do.... My brother in law did it and i know several guys at my husbands work who had it done...no regrets...that is if you done having kids :~) Denise

Guest guest
If you decide to go the vasectomy route, please get the 'little guys' tested ( well, hopefully there will BE no little guys); I know lots of people with 'vasectomy babies'. This is the route my husband and I plan to go after #4 is born in July, too...(and this one is a pill baby!) --- On Wed, 1/28/09, denise jayroe <jayroe wrote: denise jayroe <jayroe Re: birth control Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 1:57 PM One sure way to take care of it is to have your husband get snipped... Guest guest
Second the " get tested! " advice. Good friends of ours got pregnant with their 5th AFTER the husband had already gone through a vasectomy...it was quite the shock. Guest guest
Hi Michelle, He " gathers " the sample at home in a cup and takes it to the doctor's office/lab. You can help or he can do it. Either way, they'll give you instructions on timing - there is a time limit of how long until you have to get it to them for the test to be accurate. This is the easy part as far as the whole process, from my understanding. :-) Good luck! Our problem is he/we have heard horrible things about how to get tested for sperm count afterwards. That is what is holding us back. How do they get the sample?
