Guest guest
We are going to see my mom in Laguna Woods over the long weekend. Does anyone from that area have suggestions on activities, restaurants, etc.? The weather is going to be awful, so our beach and hiking plans are probably going to be off. There will be seven of us, aged 13-81. Robin
Guest guest
I don't live in the OC (I'm in SD) but there is a small chain called Veggie Grill. Two are in Irvine, I believe. You can google it. Also look for Native Foods, also a small chain. They are both worth a trek just to see how nice they are. Great for lunch! I think there is a Native Foods pretty close to where you will be, in a brand new shopping center, near movie theatres. Have fun and maybe you'll get a break in the rain. The hills around here aren't as muddy as other places (sand stone) and dry out quickly. Guest guest
Hi Robin, Native Foods would be my first, second and third choices! The street tacos are delicious! The Native Tea is a must, our son loves the mock chicken nuggets with fries, my partner loves the mock fish sandwich and buffalo wings, did I mention those tacos? :-) And I haven't had anything there I didn't like - sandwiches, salads, salsa, everything is wonderful! One thing to be aware of is that their " cheese " is not regular soy cheese, but a yeast sauce. And the whole place is really kid-friendly. There's also a bunch of ponds and rocks and bamboo outside so our son pretends he's hiking after dinner. :-) Oh, and the parking spots have little motivational thoughts stenciled on them - sort of cute. :-) Also, if you like Vietnamese food, Au Lac is really great (http://www.aulac.com/). I mean, there are millions of wonderful Asian places in Orange County, but Au Lac is my favorite. The dumpling soup is wonderful and the spring roll wraps - with the traditional lettuce leaves, mint or cilantro, and dipping sauce. Mmmmm! And they have a little refrigerated section where you can buy some of their foods prepared, too. My partner used to work in Orange County and ate at restaurants every day, so I'll see if he has any other input. (I know he used to go to a lot of mainstream restaurants with co-workers and just eat veggie stuff - Maggiano's, Macaroni Grill, Rubio's, etc. But I'll see what he has to say.) Have a great trip! Guest guest
Hi Again, I've been to two Native Foods and neither one had ponds or rocks. One is near UCLA (far from OC) and the other was in a shopping center. So, Robin, you may want to check and try to go to one w/ more " ambiance " . If you're into vegan " junk food " try the Chicken Run Ranch Burger. My family dreams about it. I had something similar, but in a wrap. Loved it! Guest guest
Hi Tracy, Oh, sorry if my post was misleading - the Costa Mesa Native Foods is the one I was talking about - between the yoga studio and diving pool by the hiking store. It is a small shopping strip - a few shops and services, but landscaped nicely with manmade ponds surrounded by rocks and bamboo. That's why I said our son pretends he's hiking - since it's not a real nature preserve or anything. :-) But, for us, it's a nice respite in the middle of the city. We really like it and often drive 1-1/2 hours to go eat there. :-) Hi Robin, you could try the Aliso Viejo one, too - we haven't been there, but I'm sure the food is just as delish! :-) Here's the website locations page if you need it: http://www.nativefoods.com/restaurants/locations/. Have a fun trip! Lorraine On Behalf Of Tracy Childs Wednesday, February 11, 2009 6:27 PM Re: Orange County, CA Hi Again, I've been to two Native Foods and neither one had ponds or rocks.
