Guest guest
I was delighted when I found organic, kosher, nori sheets at Whole Foods for making vegan sushi. However, to make a long story short, I found out from the manufacturer that, more than likely, their sheets have crushed up shellfish in them, although there was no " warning " label on the package! I wrongly assumed that if a product is labeled " kosher, " that product would not contain any " unclean " animals in it. The manufacturer said that " kosher " only means that a rabbi came by the facility and blessed the product! I decided to look at packages of nori (the plants themselves) to see if I could create my own sheets, but didn't see any directions for doing so. (Ironically, the packages of nori by the same company had a note telling consumers to check the plants for shells before using!) Has anyone seen instructions for making nori sheets? Guest guest
The manufacturer is incorrect. The mashgiach (the person doing the kosher certification) either doesn't know about the shells or should be fired. With this logic, there could be kosher pork... Here is an article from our local certification organization regarding kosher sushi; scroll down for the discussion on nori. http://www.crcweb.org/kosher/consumer/articles/F-sushi.html Robin --- On Thu, 2/19/09, admartin5 <admartin5 wrote: admartin5 <admartin5 No Such Thing As Vegan Sushi?
