Guest guest
How would you feel about horse manure from a riding stable or privately owned horses? When I moved into my house, I paid someone to pick up 2 truckloads of manure from a nearby small backyard barn and then I tilled it into the vegetable garden. It was free, it wasn't from a factory farm, and I never even thought about it being unethical. I see listings on Craigslist and elsewhere for free horse manure all the time. What do you think? I don't ride horses, and I don't want to, but I think most horses are well loved. I know not all, but at least they're not raised for meat! Guest guest
Ann, If the horses are truly pets and well loved, this may work well as a source of manure. I personally wouldn't use the horse manure because we do not believe in riding horses, beloved pets or otherwise. If I was caring for a rescued horse I would not ride the horse but would likely use the manure (after compostin of course). Guest guest
Using manure would bother me simply because you have no idea (unless it's from your own animal) what the animal has consumed which will ultimately come out in its poo. What if the grass it has eaten is laden with lawn chemicals or pesticides? What if the animal was given feed that contained animal products? What if the animal has been sick and has received antibiotics or other meds? What if the animal has received hormone injections? So if you don't know what's in the manure, why would you put it on your own crop? , " annsfarm4444 " <catlady4444 wrote: > > How would you feel about horse manure from a riding stable or privately owned horses?
