For the past three months, my mom has has a vegan (7th Day) " companion " . Mom will be coming back to Chicago next month, and Mandy will be taking her nursing boards. She is incredibly sweet and caring (and young, early twenties), but doesn't have a clue about cooking (she doesn't know too much about nutrition, either). For around $15, I have heard really good things about this one and it is for more of a novice. Also, Dreena Burton has some really good ones: Vive le Vegan and Everyday Vegan.
