Guest guest
I'm so glad to see stuff like that in mainstream publications -- this article even mentions the environmental benefits that would happen if people cut back on meat. Guest guest
Finally! Someone put it in a " real " newspaper! Maybe the public will actually start believing it now! : ) My favorite part of the article was when the guy from the American Meat Institute said that red meat was beneficial because it provided a sense of satisfaction and fullness. Yeah, that's exactly why I eat - to feel satisfied...not for my health, nutrition or survival!! (total sarcasm there!) , robin koloms <rkoloms wrote: > > Will anyone really be surprised by this? > > From the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/23/AR2009032301626.\ html?wprss=rss_nation > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Is it just my cynical nature or will this article actually affect anyone's behavior? Even if the report made it onto CNN, I doubt many meat eaters would change their habits, because they simply don't care to. For instance, my parents came to visit and wanted to gets eggs for breakfast, so I went to the Farmer's Market the weekend before their arrival to get some from a farmer who is nice to his chickens. My father doesn't care about the horrible treatment farm chickens receive and told me not many other people would either. My husband agrees with me that a vegan diet is the healthiest diet, but refuses to give up eating meat. He just doesn't care. The meat industry has done a good job along with the dairy industry and the government is convincing people that meat is good for them. Cigarette manufacturers convinced people in the 20s and 30s that smoking was beneficial to people's health. I am sorry. I am rambling. - Dawn
Guest guest
Many people don't care until they get diagnosed with cancer or heart disease (I would add diabetes to the list, but most people still don't know about this connection). Many people STILL don't care even after diagnoses. But some people do, and that's why news reports like this are great, even though in the Washington Post article they really touted white meat as a " healthy " alternative. This irks me, because it's not! It's still high in fat and dirty and cruel and grilled chicken contains high amounts of HCAs (carcinogens) and it contributes to global warming and pollution. It's still animal protein. I could go on and on! But at least the study draws attention to the negativity of meat in general, hopefully! Guest guest
Hi- Yes, it is your cynical nature, and no, it will not change most people's habits, so you are right on both fronts. At least your husband agrees that the vegan diet is the healthiest! This is a step in the right direction... jenni, another cynical realist ________________________________ Dawn Meisch <a_new_dawn Wednesday, March 25, 2009 9:52:32 AM Re: Re: Daily red meat consumption will shorten your life Is it just my cynical nature or will this article actually affect anyone's behavior?
