Guest guest
Spending time outside everyday is the best way to get vitamin D. Taking walks can be fun and educational. When my daughter was small, we would take color walks or number walks; we would leave the house with a list of color or numbers and find matches on our walk (ie: a blue ball; three birds, etc.). Even when it it very cold out, you can still go out for a fifteen minute (I think this is the requirement for vitamin D, but please double check this) walk or game of catch. Guest guest
We always try to spend some time outside, even a walk around the block or whatever in any weather is a good change of pace. Soymilk and ricemilk (I believe the hempmilk we get occasionally, and maybe some others, but we don't tend to buy them) are also enriched with some Vitamin D, I saw one that touted it's being enriched, but was the exact same % as their 'regular' variety. Not sure why there was a difference, they were the same company, same price, same amount - just different packaging for 2 seemingly different products, but they were the same other than one saying it was Enriched and Heart Healthy. I think the vegan vitamins we give sometimes also have vitamin D in them. We give them every other day, just for peace of mind. I believe it's D2 that is vegetarian sourced and the D3 is not, but most labels do not tell you which variety they use. Guest guest
My daughter was on toddler soy formula until she was over 2 years old. I had a hard time letting go of the formula/baby food... lol. Even after I started giving her some table food there was so much that was too spicy or something like I was scared she might choke, etc. I kept giving her baby food/formula until she got where she didn't want to eat it anymore. So around 2 years old or so I started giving her regular soy milk (which I think at that time was 8th continent). Then I found out 8th continent wasn't vegan (which I think it is now they changed the formula), I switched to Sunsoy which got bought out by Silk. At any rate, now she drinks the silk with omega 3 DHA and likes that pretty well. And I believe that all the soymilks & probably most of the milk alternatives have the same amount of " D " supplement that cow's milk has. So that in addition to sunlight ought to be enough without him having to take a pill. But since he has been diagnosed with rickets that doctor will probably prescribe something at his/her discretion to get that under control. You should probably speak to the doctor about your concerns regarding what is in what is being prescribed. Guest guest
San Diego is always sunny and i know for a fact that it is very vegan friendly. This time of year it is fairly afordable too! There are tons of free things to do, like the beach and they have a good park system from what i remember. As for UV index i can't help you on that one.
