Guest guest
Hi all, I know a while ago there was a request for egg things to do that did not involve chicken eggs. Kids Craft Weekly has some good ideas on their blog this week. (One does involve chicken eggs, but the others don't). You can check it out at: http://www.kidscraftweekly.com/ She puts out a great newletter with lots of good ideas for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Just an FYI! Guest guest
A few posts back someone had suggested getting wood eggs from the craft store as a substitute for coloring Easter eggs. I thought that was a great idea, so I got some today. But then I was helplessly wandering around the store wondering what to decorate them with. Any ideas? My oldest is 2.5 years old. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi- I have a couple of ideas, all of which I would do with a 2.5 year old. 1) washable markers 2) roll in a bowl of glue, then put into a sandwich bag full of glitter and shake. 3) tempera or acrylic (craft) paint. Tempera paint should be non-toxic, as it's mostly a kids product. Craft paint you would want to check the label. Don't get craft paint around nice clothes- it probably won't come out (although I've heard pine sol works, never tried it). 4) stick stuff on them: foamy stickers, regular stickers, sequins, etc. 5) just dying them with a kit like regular eggs might work just fine, too- but I wouldn't leave them in too long depending on the type of wood (solid wood should be fine). Sounds like fun. Good luck! jenni ________________________________ Rachel Morones Black <Exudepeace " " Friday, April 3, 2009 4:46:00 PM Re: Crafty Eggs A few posts back someone had suggested getting wood eggs from the craft store as a substitute for coloring Easter eggs. Guest guest
Hi Rachel, We just used craft paint, but you could use anything - markers, crayons, stickers, stamps, even collage stuff on there with glue. You could even try to dye them - that would be cool! I think we're going to try natural dyes for our chicken eggs this year - you could try that too - onion skins for yellow, beets for red, blueberries for purple, chard for green, carrots for orange - you just boil the dye food in water, and use the water instead of regular water mixed with food coloring. For the wooden egg, I wonder if you could even just do that and not even need the vinegar used to bond the color to eggshells? Have fun! Guest guest
Any old acrylic paint will work - since your kids are young, I'd pick something washable, like crayola, or washable paint pens. You could use markers too. We have always just done washable acrylic paints. Cover table with newsprint, cover child with smock, put out a handful of colors and some brushes. _____ On Behalf Of Rachel Morones Black Friday, April 03, 2009 5:46 PM Re: Crafty Eggs A few posts back someone had suggested getting wood eggs from the craft store as a substitute for coloring Easter eggs.
