Guest guest
We are planning to surprise our 3 year old daughter with a trip to Disney World at the end of the month. My husband and I have only been to Disneyland. We've been veg for about 2 years and our daughter has never been to a zoo, only to sanctuaries (which the wild animal one we went to really wasn't very nice and I think even more sad that I remember a zoo being). Anyway, I wanted to get some views on Disney's Animal Kingdom. What the living arrangements are like for the animals etc. Also, if anyone has any pointers on being vegan in Disney World or just any Disney pointers in general. Thanks so much! Guest guest
I live in the Central Florida area. Haven't went to Animal Kingdom. But we took the kids to Magic Kingdom in January. They had a blast. However, as far as eating as a vegan it was difficult. I had done my homework ahead of time by reviewing all the restaurants and their menus to see what each place offered. I had a list of what there was at each place that we could eat, so we weren't scrambling around trying to find vegetarian food. A lot of good it did us! Half the restaurants on the list just so happened to be " closed " for some reason that day. Some restaurants were closed up for good as well. All we found was a veggie burger, ended up eating it twice throughout the day because it's all we could find. And it wasn't good, it had no taste. So food was not that appealing or fun to find. Don't believe what all you read about what's available in terms of restaurants or on the menu. It made no sense why some restaurants just so happened to be chosen to be closed that day, but that's what happened. And they just so happened to be the ones that that topped my list as being more vegetarian friendly! I hope you have more luck at Animal Kingdom. I also don't know anyone that's went there, so I don't know much about how the animals are treated. But we are somone that won't even do Sea World... so I can only speak on my food experience with Disney. Have fun! Jacqueline
Guest guest
We went last year, and the animal kingdom was closed. There are several places inside that offer vegan items (the veggie burgers are but not the buns). If you eat at the main restaurant (you need reservations for it, but you have to call and if you let them know they will make a vegan meal for you). They also have little vendor carts with fresh fruit. We had good luck with a few places and they were happy to let us check the book of ingredients to check for sure. There is a place you can also get vegan burritos. I did a search online for vegan at disney world, I think - maybe it was just a search on disney's site for restaurants and special diets. It is very easy to do, and we also packed a few things but didn't really need to do so. They have visitors from all over the world, so it was quite easy to find vegan stuff. Guest guest
Hello, I'm the one who raved about the formal African restaurant in Animal Kingdom Lodge whose name I can't remember, but you can call the lodge and get the name. Two things I Forgot to mention, you need reservations and do this at the end of the day after the park, it's not in the park and in all the Parks the faster food is very limited, but the chefs come out and accommodate at the higher end restaurants, which also require reservations. But the African Lodge restaurant is great, I don't recall any other restaurant coming out with a special little menu of vegan food. Guest guest
We were recently in Orlando visiting my parents and used this website to find vegetarian options at Disney: http://allears.net/din/vegcsparks.htm I still brought snack bars, which came in handy when we were waiting in line or just weren't close to a veg food option. I'm not an expert by any means, but I thought the Animal Kingdom habitats were better than most I've seen. The habitats were large and the viewing areas seemed less intrusive to the animals. They also had staff at certain points to provide educational information and answer questions. However, my son didn't enjoy it that much, except for the petting zoo. He loves animals but he was only 18 months so seeing them far away in a large habitat didn't always engage him. Of course, we preferred it that way since it's better for the animals! He did like the Finding Nemo show, which would be great for your daughter as well. The website I mentioned above (allears.net) has lots of information on all the parks and their different attractions, including which ones are little kid friendly so you can have an idea of what you want to do before you go. Also, I would definitely bring your own stroller, preferably an umbrella stroller with canopy and recline. Otherwise, it's $15/day to rent a big, bulky stroller that doesn't recline. Have a great trip! , " ad00rable_1 " <nkiffer wrote: > > We are planning to surprise our 3 year old daughter with a trip to Disney World at the end of the month.
