Ok..

Now I know why I read these posts every day . I am so sad :( I can not

believe that I let my beautiful little girl eat those damn french fries.

Sorry I have 6 kids and can get a little lazy- so for a quick on the run deal,

I would get them fries. OH WELL we are so done with McDonalds. I heard the

fries had been 'cooked' in animal fat/lard whatever, but that they had

cooked it now in veggie oil. ANOTHER little secret and one of the reasons I

get upset with fast food places. They will feed you anything to get your

money in their pockets.

To me a fry is a piece of potato - and just reading what else is in there

makes me want to VOMIT ! I will be posting THAT to my webpages

(facebook/myspace) because that is just to nasty for me not to share ! :)

We make (baked) fries with sweet potatoes and butternut squash (dipped in

bar-b-que sauce). put a little olive oil on the pan; sprinkle with herbs, sea

salt, whatever; bake at around 375, turn after around ten minutes.

Yummy oven fries! :) I'll have to try the butternut squash (my son

loves them, and it never dawned on me to do this w/them LOL). It was

awesome on our trip to Portland, Maine last week - we found a vegan

buffet (thanks to happycow.net) in town and they had a $2.99 lunch

buffet special for all of April - and my son said " Ooh! Squash! Yum! I

need that " and promptly put a heaping pile of it on his plate. The

folks behind us were chuckling (as he also did something similar for

the green beans they had).

If anyone is going Down East (hee), I highly recommend this place -

Little Lad's Bakery and Cafe. It is vegan (something on happycow said

they used honey in some bakery item, but we didn't come across it).

It was awesome, and were always greeted with " Welcome home " and a

handshake, even when we were just walking by, they said hello and were

very friendly to us, and everyone on the street, really. The owner's

daughter and our son became fast friends, she sat with us and they

played for a little while before she had to go with her mom somewhere.

They were awesome, the food was amazing, and it was nice to know we

could just get anything at all we wanted (there was a mention of one

of the baked goods having honey in them, so you can probably just ask

about what it was). Apparently all the local business people love to

go there for lunch - which is awesome (and I guess they are going to

be opening another one in Manhattan I think it was fairly soon-ish ).

I hope they continue to do well, too. We look forward to going back

there again next time we visit Maine.

No, I oil the pan with olive oil (I have a pan reserved for fries because it

looks nasty) and roll the fries in the oil on the pan, then sprinkle with the

herbs and salt (or just salt). It really is worth investing in a good sea salt

for flavoring.
