Here are some things we've discovered...

-beef flavoring in McDonald's french fries

-chicken flavoring in Burger King's french fries

-lard used in refried beans at Mexican places

-chicken stock used in rice at Mexican places and Tumbleweed Restaurants

-gelatin in many kinds of candy

-cholicalciferol vs. ergocalciferol (sp?). Those are D vitamins in products.

" Choli " is from animal - just remember " cholesterol " to help you remember which

is which.

-whey and casein are animal products (most of you know this already)

-At work, someone left a big container of various sugary cookies to share with

employees. People were eating them like crazy and made fun of me, " the label

reader " , because I was checking the ingredients. Completely gross...an

ingredient was " beef fat " - probably the shortening I'm guessing.

-At Chili's Restaurants, the balsamic vinaigrette contains anchovies and the

seasoning for the steamed broccoli contains butter. I ate both one night and

threw up all night long. I found out after emailing Chili's what each product

contained. If I eat a salad at restaurants, I always ask for oil and vinegar

for dressing just to be safe. Also, some Italian dressings contain cheese.

-Also always ask about veggies/beans being cooked with animal fat or beef in the

pot. Cracker Barrel has this listed at the bottom of their menu.

I think that's all for now. If I think of anything else, I'll add.

Baked barbeque Lays potato chips contain chicken fat. I got sooooo

grossed out when I read the ingredients! I don't think I've ever

actually eaten them, thank goodness!

Most soups at restaurants are made with beef or chicken broth...

A small amount of olive oil and lemon wedges and salt and pepper make

a great salad dressing at a restaurant!

Chipotle pinto beans contain bacon. The black beans are delish and

vegan!

Show me where you got the BK fries thing.

Our veg-friendly fast food places that we frequent are Burger King, Taco Bell

and Subway.

BK - was endorsed by many veg groups when their veggie burger was vegan.  Now

that it is vegetarian - I don't hear any groups promoting it anymore.  But

according to their website all the fries ingredients look vegetarian to me.  And

there is no mention of chicken fat in the fries in the ingredient list.  And BK

also says that they have a " French Fry Only " fryer that fries are always cooked

separately in.  It seems like BK does a good job accomodating vegetarians --

vegans not so much-- but they have mac/cheese, french fries, apple fries, veggie

burger, side salad that are all lacto-ovo vegetarian friendly.
