Guest guest
I emailed McD's about their fries and told them how disgusted I was. This was their response. They seem to think that it is only a very small amount of beef flavor and it should not matter. GRRRR! Anyway they sure blew me off! Thought you may want to know, Michelle McDonalds.CustomerCare MYSHADYBOYZ Wed, 8 Apr 2009 05:08:19 -0500 Message from McDonald's USA Hello Michelle: Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's. We appreciate this opportunity to share information with you about our French fries. For flavor enhancement, McDonald's French fry suppliers use a very small amount of beef flavor as a natural flavoring during the par-frying process at the potato processing plant. In the restaurant, the French fries are cooked in vegetable oil. You may be interested to know that we recently updated our nutrition information to include the ingredients in " natural flavors " for all our US core menu items. Customers will now be able to find out if a natural flavor comes from a dairy, meat or vegetable source. Guest guest
I would put McDonald's squarely in the 'gee whiz, we took the meat off, what more do you want??!!' camp. Guest guest
I did a quick search for In & Out fries, but don't see the ingredients. We are comfortable going to Johnny Rockets for a vegan burger and fries. Not only do they have a message to vegetarians on their site (http://johnnyrockets.com/themenu/ingredients.php) but they are one of the very few places that use Tillamook cheese (vegetarian rennett used) and offer a veggie burger on the kids menu! In their message to vegetarians they state how it's possible, although unlikely, that the food would come in contact with animal derived products. I like their honesty, because it can happen at any restaurant that is not all vegan. But we have eaten there many times and are comfortable with their clean open kitchen. We can actually see our burgers/fries being cooked as we sit there. If you haven't been there, try it out! Jacqueline
Guest guest
what country are you in? I thought BK was veg-friendly in the UK as well. Even before they were in the US... they had the veggie whopper over ten years ago. Over here no hot chips are vegan as they are prepared with tallow. I found this out accidently as the lady at my university cafe asked if I was a true vego as the chips have tallow. She has to let people know in case we were Hindu. I was devistated. I thought hot chips were a great cheap vegan food for the road! There is a Hindu chicken takeaway that has vegan chips near by though, so that's good. Ange. Guest guest
All i know about in & out food is that they do not freeze any of there products. So i would think that would include fresh potatoes for their fries, but they could fry them in the same oil they fry other items in, and possibly marinate them in some type of flavoring that uses meat. I second the former post that said to say you are allergic to find out. People really do take allergies more seriously than they take an ethical/ moral choice. i guess lying isn't really moral either but it deffenantly is the lesser of two evils in this case. Guest guest
Hi- That's a good point (I'm the one who said that). I don't look at it as lying. On the extremely rare occasion I've gotten something with broth, etc. in it, I've gotten extremely ill, so I look at it as an easier-to-explain version of the truth, not to mention a necessary defensive move for my health. j. ________________________________ havingagreatfulday <havingagreatfulday Thursday, April 9, 2009 4:36:08 PM Re: FW: Message from McDonald's USA All i know about in & out food is that they do not freeze any of there products.
