Guest guest
Kate, For cheeze recipes try www.nomilk.com. I don't really use TVP, but you could try using it in tacos, spaghetti or other dishes where m**t is used. I hope this helps. Guest guest
My 2yr old loves dahl. I cook up red lentil and broccoli and sweet potato with a bit of masel vege stock and add hommus at the end. It's really the best way I have found to get him to eat veges happily. I also find mushing everything up and adding hommus and a bit of cheese melted on top to be effective too. I think veges in their whole form can be a bit unappealing for them. I can't get him to eat steamed veg unless it's mashed. Good luck. I hope dinner time gets easier X ange Sent from my iPod On 11/04/2009, at 2:19 AM, " coylemk " <coylemk wrote: > > > Hi > i have two questions not related however! > I greatly need to know how to make a organic cheese and/or soy > cheese /rice cheese dip melted so my daughter will eat more veggies. > Any recipes? or other dips i could try? > She loves hummus which is great but i need other types of dips.. > also, i would like some good recipes for using TVP- either for > nuggets/patties or something else- i have the bag just sitting in > freezer and have only used for veggie chili- i need a recipe that a > 3 yo would like!! > thanks for any suggestions! > Kate > Mother of 3 yo vegetarian who eats some cheese and milk > >
Guest guest
I am not a TVP fan, but this is a good, kid friendly recipe: Non Dairy Cheesy Vegetable Soup 2 medium onions 1/3 cup olive oil 1/2 cup dry Textured Vegetable Protein 2 cups sliced carrots 1 cup chopped celery 10 cups water 2 tablespoons salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 teaspoon celery seed 2 teaspoons soy sauce Saute 2 medium onions (diced) in olive oil. Add to TVP, carrots and celery in large pot. Add water, salt, pepper, celery seed and soy sauce. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until vegetables are tender. Stir in: 1 cup Red Star® Vegetarian Support FormulaT (T6635+) Flakes 3 tablespoons margarine 4 cups cooked noodles or 3 cups cooked brown rice 1 cup either broccoli or cauliflower or both Serve with sprouts and/or crackers --- On Fri, 4/10/09, coylemk <coylemk wrote: coylemk <coylemk organic cheese dip and textured protein TVP Friday, April 10, 2009, 11:19 AM Hi i have two questions not related however! Guest guest
Road's End makes " chreese " and has recipes on its website (www.chreese.com). They also have a nacho dip but that might be spicy. McCormick's spices makes a powdered ranch dressing mix that is vegan - just add vegan sour cream or vegeniase, it tastes great. We make sloppy joe's out of TVP. My daughter loves them. ~Michele , POMPY NIMA <pompyn wrote: > > Kate, > For cheeze recipes try www.nomilk.com. Guest guest
My understanding is that the Teese brand of vegan cheese melts pretty well but I haven't checked that out myself. I do recommend, though, Jo Stepaniak's Saucy Vegetarian for a slew of great vegan sauce recipes for dipping. Good luck! Guest guest
We've had Teese at the pizza place inside Whole Foods in Boystown (off Halsted). It does melt really well on their pizzas, but we've not tried it at home (I never could find it in the store, and it seems fairly expensive, but it is by the pound). I really like the meltiness of the Rella Brand Vegan cheeses (cheddar and Mozzarella styles both work very well and are also both soy free - they're made with rice and oat milks). I've seen them at Whole foods now and then, and at a smaller health food store (Fruitful Yeild I think it's called). Guest guest
TVP, I use in lasagne and taco layered salads...especially if we are going to a " potluck " with family and friends that eat meat, they don't notice it's not " meat " and we can eat it knowing it's not meat. For " meatballs " or nuggets...it really doesn't hold together well that I have found. There is an awesome recipe using lentils and veggies at www.christinacooks.com called " Not your mamas meatloaf " , which I have used as " meatballs " . TVP is not really " tasty " by itself...I season it with oregano and sage to give it some flavor. good luck Colleen
