Guest guest
I came across this query from a journalist seeking vegetarian parents (among other categories). Looks like she is going to use it as a spring board in how vegetarian parents set their kids up to be " picky eaters. " I thought maybe some of us could respond to her to let her know that we are teaching our kids a health way to eat, a more humane way to eat, etc. If that's " picky eating, " so be it! ;-) Her contact info and the query is below.. 0.1) Summary: URGENT: Blaming Parents for Picky Eaters Category: Lifestyle & Entertainment Name: Jeanne Sager Email: jeannesager Title: writer Media Outlet/Publication: Babble.com Anonymous? No Specific Geographic Region? No Region: Deadline: 6:00 PM EASTERN - April 11 Query: " Super Urgent here - need to throw together a piece on why parents are to blame for how picky our kids are! Looking for health experts to weigh in and some parents to talk about how being a vegetarian, how being freaked about high fructose corn syrup, etc. have affected how they treat food in front of their kids. Would love parents to talk about how they're stuck making different dinners for their different kids. Need this for Monday - aaack - hoping HARO can help. Guest guest
So nice to know that journalists still take seriously their mission to be objective, factual, and fair. /sarcasm Liz ________________________________ Jacqueline Bodnar <jb Friday, April 10, 2009 2:29:14 PM journalist seeking veg parents I came across this query from a journalist seeking vegetarian parents (among other categories). Guest guest
I emailed this journalist. She said 1) that she had all the sources she was in need of, 2) thanked me for my effort, and 3) did not at all intend to imply that vegs are causing food pickiness issues; she is a veg herself! I was sort of dumbfounded- especially after reading and re-reading her query, the intent of which seemd pretty clear cut. Who knows. I'm gogint o try to remember to get on there and read her final article. j. ________________________________ ERB <bakwin Saturday, April 11, 2009 6:34:42 PM Re: journalist seeking veg parents So nice to know that journalists still take seriously their mission to be objective, factual, and fair. /sarcasm Liz ____________ _________ _________ __ Jacqueline Bodnar <jb@jacquelinebodnar .com> @gro ups.com Friday, April 10, 2009 2:29:14 PM journalist seeking veg parents I came across this query from a journalist seeking vegetarian parents (among other categories). Guest guest
Thanks for the posts regarding this! I do think the query sounds like she was going to make it seem like vegetarian parents make their kids picky eaters. But I agree with others... if it means being educated on what you are eating and making logical choices, I say the pickier the better! :-) Jacqueline
Guest guest
Thanks for that follow-up! I'm as flabbergasted as you are: if her initial query is any indication of the level of clarity in her finished copy, she's not the writer she thinks she is.
