Amity,

Sorry you can't make it out CA way- I live in L.A. with my husband and 6

year old son. We are part of a Waldorf school community and everyone

respects our life choices. We share in the cooking of meals, co-op our

childcare and we have vegans, raw foodists, gluten-free living. All

different shapes, sizes and styles of people. it is great. If you do make

it out here look me up. And the music scene is great too.

I was going to say, but got off on a tangent, that it may seem like CA's a mess

right now, but if you're planning on buying a house when you move, you couldn't

have picked a better time, cost-wise. Houses are cheaper than they've been  in 7

or 8 years at least, dependent on the area. We bought our house 7 years ago and

still have appreciation, but it's NOWHERE near the 'double in value' we had 3 or

so years ago. The job market's tough, but it really depends on what you do for a

living, etc.  If you really like San Diego, I still think it's worth checking

into.
