Guest guest
Aaaarrrrggggghhhh. The CVS order arrived: inside were the OTHER Omega-3 vitamins, the ones with gelatin in them. So I called customer service, which informs me that even though their website lists the non-gelatin ones, and allows you to order them (and I've even purchased them at an actual CVS store before)....they don't actually carry the non-gelatin ones. Say what?? So, don't bother ordering them from the website. Back to the drawing board. Why is it so difficult for vitamin companies to understand that the very people who want Omega-3s without the fish products are probably not going to want other animal products in them either? Frustratedly, Liz
Guest guest
Hi, I had to go to a couple CVS stores before I found the non-gelatin omega-3 gummy vitamins, but when I did, they were " buy one, get one free " (at the original price of $10). That was Saturday in Westborough, Mass. I don't know how long the sale lasts or whether there's any way to see whether an individual CVS store carries the vitamins without looking yourself. Guest guest
> > My dear friends, > I know in this society is a challenge to be a vegan or a vegetarian family. Dear Liz, sometimes I get so frustrated too, but we have to keep on going. Anyway, the reason why I am writing to you guys in this opportunity, is to share with you the news that I am pregnant (21 weeks now). But the first 16 weeks I have been very miserable: nauseas, vomiting, you name it. My OB prescribed to me several kind of vitamins for my pregnancy but they just seemed to upset my stomach (Well, I have to say that my OB does not have that vegan or vegetarian approach, unfortunately). Anyway, now I am just not taking those pre-natal vitamins. I just would like to ask you how did you guys manage this kind of issues when you were pregnant? Any advice is going to be very well appreciated Thanks in advance Rebeca > > >
Guest guest
Congratulations on your new family member! When I was pregant, I could not take the vitamins our doctor gave me. I went to my favorite healthfood store, and talked to their nutritionist (at that time they had one at the store full time). He suggested a vitamin, that also made me sick, I went back (they took the vitamins back for a full refund) and tried another... The fourth vitamin I tried didn't make me sick; I had been resistant to them because they were over packaged (little plastic pouched in plastic jugs. I think that they were rainbow light, but I am not sure. Anyway, try kiddie vitamins; they seem to not make pregnant women sick. --- On Tue, 4/21/09, Rebeca Llasaca-Van Horn <rllasaca wrote: Rebeca Llasaca-Van Horn <rllasaca Re: ix-nay on the CVS vitamins Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 4:30 PM > > My dear friends, > I know in this society is a challenge to be a vegan or a vegetarian family. Guest guest
A friend of mine can't take the prescription ones either, and she takes a children's multi (I don't know if the dosing is different for pregnant ladies, but she said her Dr. ok'd them/suggested them to her). Maybe ask your Doc if you can do this as well? On Wed, Apr 22, 2009 at 7:58 AM, robin koloms <rkoloms wrote: > > > Congratulations on your new family member! Guest guest
I had horrible morning sickness when i first got pregnant (I am 31 weeks). I also was not very happy with the selection of vitamins my midwife could prescribe. I went to my local co-op and spent time researching all the different prenatal vitamins they had available. I finally settled on New Chapter Perfect Prenatal vitamins. I know they are vegetarian, but I am not sure about vegan. When i started taking them it was like I was a whole new person. I felt better than before i got pregnant. They are a whole foods vitamin. I found them to be incredibly easy to digest. I can take them on an empty stomach with just water and I have no problems. I do usually take them with a meal though. Also it calls for you to take three a day. I usually spred them out between my three main meals. That may have helped too. They can be a little pricey, but i found it to be well worth it. I am fortunate enough to have a few friends who work at the co-op as well and New Chapter usually alows employees of companys that order from them to recieve a large discount. So if you can befriend someone at your local health food shop you could possibly save a lot of money on them. I hope this info helps. Best wishes to you and your family. Guest guest
I had the same problem. I just took my kids Vitamins. I checked the dosages and just took two. I've used several brands of children's vitamins, but I always look for ones in the natural food stores without additives or artificial stuff. But for any vitamin, remember to never take them on an empty stomach. that'll generally not be good. Occasionally I would take a vitamin, then get busy and forget to eat. usually within 15 minutes, I'd feel sick to my stomach, which would remind me to eat. Good luck! *^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Tara J Petite tara www.petite.net On Behalf Of Rebeca Llasaca-Van Horn Tuesday, April 21, 2009 5:30 PM Re: ix-nay on the CVS vitamins > > My dear friends, > I know in this society is a challenge to be a vegan or a vegetarian family. Guest guest
Dear Rebeca, When I was pregnant with my daughter (now 3), I took Rainbow Light prenatal vitamins and O-mega-Zen-3 DHA (both vegan). The Rainbow Light vitamins were like horse pills but I think there's a once-a-day version that's easier to swallow. Good luck - Jessica EMAILING FOR THE GREATER GOOD Join me
Guest guest
Congrats! I had lots of probs with the preggy vitamins, as well. Finally settled on the Trader Joe's ones. They worked for me (pretty sure they are vegan) & I especially liked the fact that you only need 1 per day (not the 4 that most seemed to require). Only issue was that the nearest TJ's is 300+ miles away, so I stalked up when I went & had a friend mail them to me. I continued taking them through the first 2 years of nursing (son is 2 1/2 & still nursing). Good luck. Looks like you already have lots of great advice.
