Guest guest
Hi, I just came across this, and though it was good for those of us who don't have space to garden outside, or were looking for MORE space to garden in this year: http://fpcommunitygarden.com/ Looks like they're still in the process of getting things together and starting up, but it's just West of Oak Park (Harlem and 290) where they are thinking about setting things up. I already emailed them about volunteering and am waiting to hear back. I would love to be able to have a space to garden in (since with our move, I had to give up my lovely garden - I'll miss you most, asparagus!) Just thought others in/near the community would be interested in this. I also heard somewhere about maybe Oak Park also looking into doing this in the near future, too. Missie *** Oh, and here's some other info that I was sent, where I found out about this (some of this says " me " , " we " and " I " but it is not me personally...it's just from the other thing I was sent from elsewhere: We are a group of volunteers who are working to start a community garden in Forest Park. We've received permission from the Park District of Forest Park to use an underutilized lot located on the northwest corner of Harlem Ave. and I-290. When the garden is done, it will offer garden plots that people can rent as well as educational programs for adults and kids (our services will not be limited to Forest Park residents; anyone is welcome!). We are begining our first fundraising efforts this weekend with two events. (see below) If you or the readers of Mom Mail would like more general info about the garden project, they can visit our website at fpcommunitygarden.com , follow us on Twitter @TeamFPCG , or send us an email at fpcommunitygarden. Support Forest Park Community Garden- Fundraising Events April 24, 25 & 26th. Clover's Fundraiser Friday 24 - Sunday 26th: First, starting on Friday the 24th and going until Sunday the 26th, make sure to head to Clover's Garden Center in Berwyn ( at Cermak and Harlem) to stock up on your garden supplies and plants. Download and print this flyer , give it to the cashier when you check out, and Clover's will donate 10% of your total pre-tax purchase amount. I was just out at Clover's yesterday looking around and was glad to see that they have a wide variety of annuals, perennials, herbs, veggies, and trees to choose from, as well as topsoil, compost, containers, bare root plants, and other gardening supplies. If you are on any community mailing lists / message boards, feel free to pass along this announcement to them. We want to get as many people as possible to participate in this event. Forest Park Community Yard Sale Saturday 25th: Second, on Saturday the 25th from 9:00am to 2:00pm, we will be participating in the Forest Park Community Yard Sale which is held in the parking lot of the main Park District building at 7501 W. Harrison Street in Forest Park. If you have unwanted household items / clothing / electronics / furniture that you'd like to donate to us to sell, let me know. I'm happy to come by your house to pick up your donation. Or, you can bring it to us on the day of the sale. What is not sold can either be donated to Good Will or you can take it back, your choice. Finally, don't forget about our other fundraising events coming up in May. They include: May 9th - Plant Sale at Green Home Experts in Oak Park May 16th- Plant Sale at the " What's Blooming on Harrison " street festival in Oak Park June 13th- Bake Sale at the Oak Park Farmer's Market If you'd like to help with any of these events, please let me know. We will need people to staff the plant sale and bake sale tables and we will need people to bake homemade goodies for the bake sale. . I will also be sending out a list of the hand-raised chemical-free plants we'll be offering at the plant sale. We'll have old favorites like " Beefsteak " tomatoes and Marigolds, but we'll also have some unique varieties such as " Peruvian Purple " chili peppers, purple basil and, " Cuban Oregano " so make sure to come check it out. -- http://mszzzi.zoomshare.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/mszzzi/ ~~~~~(m-.-)m
