Xinhua News Agency said the scientists at the Robot Engineering Technology Research Center at Shandong University of Science and Technology in eastern China used the micro electrodes to command the bird to fly right or left, and up or down. The implants stimulated different areas of the pigeon's brain according to electronic signals sent by the scientists via computer, mirroring natural signals generated by the brain, Xinhua quoted chief scientist Su Xuecheng as saying. It was the first such successful experiment on a pigeon in the world, said Su, who conducted a similar successful experiment on mice in 2005. © 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Guest guest
This is ridiculous! Creativity put in the wrong hands again. We can magine how much suffering in the countless mice and pigeons (and other animals) who were sacrificed in their labs towards this " achievement " !! What's the point of " controlling " like this? Does it make us better humans or the birds better birds??? _____ aapn [aapn ] On Behalf Of Kim Bartlett Wednesday, February 28, 2007 5:02 AM aapn MSNBC Chinese succeed in implanting brain electrodes to influence flight >Scientists remotely control pigeons >Chinese scientists have succeeded in implanting >electrodes in the brain of a pigeon to remotely >control the bird's flight, state media said. >http://www.msnbc. <http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17359821/> msn.com/id/17359821/ > Scientists remotely control pigeons Chinese succeed in implanting brain electrodes to influence flight The Associated Press Updated: 4:53 a.m. AKT Feb 27, 2007 BEIJING - Chinese scientists have succeeded in implanting electrodes in the brain of a pigeon to remotely control the bird's flight, state media said.
