Re. the (probably fallacious) letter the Korean govt. sent to Jill in response

to hers about the dog culling due to AI (bird flu) - I didn't realise there was

a dog carrying AI in Thailand, did it die?

Does anyone have any more info. about that?

Thanks.

Senseless culling of dogs in South Korea

Dear Monica,

Many of you will have read about the appalling response of the South Korean

authorities to the recent outbreak of bird flu which is seeing hundreds of dogs

brutally killed in the areas of the infected chickens. Animals Asia has written

to the Korean Embassy in Hong Kong to protest this reactionary slaughter and

needs your help to write a short letter of your own to the Korean Embassies in

your area.

The blame for bird flu lies squarely on the shoulders of intensive farming

practices and, as the experts emphasise time and time again, there is no

evidence at all that dogs or cats play any part in the spread of this virus. It

is all too easy to blame the animals for the sins of an industry that needs a

thorough overhaul.

Please send those letters - the dogs need your help.

With many thanks and warm wishes,

Jill
