Monkeys, Bihar man's best friends

Rohtas/Patna: It is what can be called monkey business at its best.

Dadan Singh has some 700 odd monkeys and he loves singing and relaxing

in their company on treetops.

 

In Bihar's Rohtas district Dadan is known as " monkey man " for looking

after an army of monkeys.

 

" Feeding so many monkeys surely is not an easy task. But most

households of the village contribute and they do it willingly. I

started off by feeding 45 monkeys, but now there are 772 monkeys, "

says Singh.

 

Says a villager, Daya Shanker, " Those who beg for themselves are

called beggars. But when you beg for others, I feel that is the

biggest form of charity. "

 

" Once I was surrounded by dacoits and I called out for the monkeys and

they helped me. Since that day I decided to take care of monkeys, "

says Dadan.

 

" The government should understand that our country is a holy place and

it is the monkeys who helped conquering Lanka. So they should take

care of monkeys as at some point these monkeys might help our

country, " Dadan adds.

 

Funny as it may sound, but these primates will remain Dadan's priority.
