Protest the Mass Shipment of Macaque Monkeys from Cambodia!

Dear E-Friends,

When one thinks of Cambodia, one has an image of ancient Buddhist temples,

saffron-garbed monks, and lush jungles full of wildlife-including chattering

monkeys. In the past, Cambodia was never mentioned in statistics of the

international monkey slave trade!

Sadly, things have changed in recent years. In September 2005, a Chinese

company operating in Cambodia shipped 120 monkeys to the United States; the

following December, another 120 monkeys left their homeland forever.

Unfortunately, most of these monkeys are likely to live miserable lives in

U.S. laboratories, being used in infectious disease and biowarfare

experiments-never to see their homeland again.

The situation escalated in 2006 when 2,532 monkeys, purportedly bred in

Cambodia, reached the United States. IPPL received reports on alleged

unsatisfactory conditions at these facilities, and our contacts expressed

their suspicions that wild-caught monkeys were being exported on fake

" captive-born " documents.

Please contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service Division of Law Enforcement

to request that it undertake an investigation of whether wild-caught monkeys

from Cambodia are being exported to the United States and being declared as

" captive-born: "

Also, please contact the Ambassador of Cambodia to your country requesting

total protection of Cambodia's monkeys. In the United States the address is:
