KOTA BARU: Over the past two years, two men have raked in over

RM500,000 by smuggling pangolins into Thailand.

But the law caught up with the 25-year-old taxi driver and the retired

teacher, 53, from Negri Sembilan.

The two travelled to the east coast three times a month, where they

bought the protected animals for RM120 each, and sold them to a buyer

in Tumpat for twice that amount. They made a profit of about RM7,000

per trip.

The pangolins ended up in medicine shops in China, said state Wildlife

Department director Pazil Abdul Patah.

On Friday, after a tip-off, the two were arrested in Kampung Jambu,

Tumpat, where they were planning to meet with the buyer at an illegal

jetty.

Their four-wheel-drive was confiscated along with 113 pangolins worth

RM15,000.
