Guest guest
*Dear Mr Brewin,* * Clamping down on freedom of speech and expression and censoring information that makes people uncomfortable is not the best way forward either for AAPN or the AfA conference. There is no fixated definition of who a 'terrorist' and a 'fanatic' is and even if there is one, I will defend their right to speak. * * Best wishes and kind regards,* ** * Ghosh* On 1/6/07, dennis908409 <dennisbrewin wrote: > > I should like to support Merrit Clifton for his timely letter. > > The film is showing the excesses of a host of fanatics whose tactics > are no better than those of terrorists. > AAPN is a most excellent organisation whose normally well balanced work > deserves the support of all right-thinking and animal-minded people. Guest guest
Agreed. The ones who terrorize the animals can be called terrorists too ya? Guest guest
Agreed whole heartedly! We need to be very careful with the use of the word 'terrorist' - a word which is thrown around too loosely for comfort lately. I don't believe that we can tar those who fight for life with the same brush as those who kill. (No animal rights activist has ever killed to further their cause). Guest guest
>(No animal rights activist has ever killed to further their cause). This has been basically a matter of blind luck. Quite a number of ALF bombings and arsons have come very close to killing people, including one mink feed depot bombing in Utah ten years ago that nearly wiped out a sleeping family of Mexicans who had no idea that the building they found open and camped in might have been a target. Contrary to ALF rhetoric, every arson is potentially lethal. That's because firefighters have no way of knowing whether someone is trapped inside a burning building without going inside to find out. As a firefighter long ago, I did room-to-room crawls beneath the smoke on hands and knees with a water pack, searching for possible victims, aware that at any moment a floor or roof might collapse. From that perspective, when I hear someone defending arson in the name of life, I know first hand that I am listening to someone who has no real respect for life at all, & is really just looking for a pretext to vent sociopathy. -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O.
